Okay, my cat wasnt' eating for about 2 days, then finally got an apetite and ate an entire bowl of kitty chow (a bit more than it normally eats) then I gave it a bath. After the bath it seemed like a paralyzed cat. It just laid on the ground barely moving, and looked like it was wincing in pain.

Some theories: the eating after not eating caused a "refeeding" phenomenon where they cat's stomach may have shrunk a bit and then eating a full meal caused it to pile on an uncomfortable amount of food.

2. It accidentally swallowed some water in the bath, and got a bloated stomach?

no, no, that happened a month ago, she's fine know, all energized and totally normal. "too much" energy if anything
I just wondered if that had happened to anyone else. Was she in risk of dying? Cats can't die after not eating for two days, right? Anyways, her current 2 meals a day schedule is totally back to normal (and has been for the past month). The food and then water incident caused alarm, though.

I don't have an answer to the problem your cat had after the bath, but, yes, a cat can become very ill after not eating for two days. They often develop hepatic lipidosis (Fatty Liver Disease). When a cat does not eat the body starts using stored fat as fuel. The fat is processed by the liver and my be too much for the liver to handle. Here's an article about hepatic lipidosis.

YES SHE WAS AT RISK OF DYING!! Any animal that is ill and not eating should never be given a bath AT ALL!I IMO Your cat was very lucky, cats cannot cope with low body temeratures especially if they are poorly, and giving a cat a bath when it is clearly "not right " IS WRONG.

I have never heard of any cat swallowing enough water in the bath that it gets a bloated stomach!!!..unless it it was left to drown

Please take your cat to a vet and have her checked out asap, those symptoms just isnt right.

The cat is all checked up checked-out, etc. She's fine now, but thanks a ton for that link. I appreciate that. And btw, NO I did not leave the cat "to drown". Call me stupid, but I thought the bath would revive the cat. Anyways, that saga has ended, no need to worry.

yeah, ok great. thanks for clarifying. Not a cat killer!!
Your message was less towards my specific situation and more towards other readers who might encounter similar situations. I think the bottom line is cats and baths are a kind of funny combination! I'm the opposite of a cat; I love water, which is probably why I find cats so fascinating; the interests in opposites thing.
