I got the older female cat from cats protection 2 and half yrs ago. Fell in love with her as as soon as I went near her in the cats protection place she let me fuss and rub and stroke her around her face/chin. All has gone well with her, she has gradually gained trust in me as she was nervous to begin with and has never been a lap cat or liked being picked up, but now she loves to have belly rubs and loves all the fuss and attention I give her.

When I got her they said she didn't like other cats, which judging by any neighbourhood cats that came round the garden, I thought they were right as she would run indoors as quick as she could and hiss and get into the odd little fight with a male neighbour cat. It used to come into our house through her cat flap

We remedied that by getting a catflap which is infrared, so now only she can get in our house via the cat flap, so she is much happier.

I have been thinking for ages now I would love another cat, but always in the back of my mind was what the cats protection lady had said, so I didn't get one.

Recently, I thought to myself I wonder if she will take to a kitten easier than an adult cat, as a kitten being a lot younger and a baby still, she will know she is the boss of the house and will be the top cat and not feel so threatened by a kitten.

Also I found it difficult to believe that she didn't like ALL other cats, it's a bit like humans not liking ANY other humans!

So, last thursday we picked up the male kitten. Liberty had only came back from the cattery an hour or so before as we had been away for a few days, so I thought best to do it now before she settles firmly in at home again, (plus she had seen other cats at the cattery, so thought it a good time).

I didn't segregate the kitten from her at all. I figured to myself knowing Liberty as I do, probably the less fuss I make of bringing the kitten into the house the better, less drama, less problems hopefully

The first couple of days went fine with Liberty only hissing/growling at the kitten if it came to close to her. The kitten realising she was not too pleased, would back away.

In the last couple of days the kitten is able to get within a couple of inches of her and actually remain close without her hissing (as long as he's not annoying her
) They almost touched noses at one point! Also they have been chasing each other around the house, I am presuming as there is no crying out or really loud angry noises that they are playing! Liberty at the beginning didn't chase, it was always the kitten that instigated it, now on the odd occasion she will chase after him too, finally maybe she will get some excercise! She watches the kitten playing with toys in fascination at this little fluff ball running around the house like a maniac
And she is just as affectionate as ever. I always feed her first, to make her feel NO 1 still and I fuss her as much as if not more than before, so she knows she is still loved and my NO 1 princess
But I have to say, I am really pleased with how they have got on considering what the woman in the cats protection said, now she will have company when we are at work or on holidays

I'm new here as well. Awww...your little black one looks a lot like mine did as a baby:

JiJi as a baby.

He's bigger now though and less angry looking. ^_^

Welcome to the forums and I hope to see you around more.

Welcome to TCS!

It sounds as if introducing your cat to the kitten is going brilliantly, I wish my two had been that easy

Thanks for all the welcomes, everyone is so friendly

I have been lucky haven't I? Yesterday they were touching noses for a few seconds, without any growls or hissing from my older cat, not bad progress in a week, im very pleased
