The vet isn't open for 3 more hours and I need to know what I can do for him now. Sebastian (bottle baby) is 7-8 weeks old now. He's been extremely slow gaining weight since I've had him. Maybe a .1-.2 ounce gain per day. Vet just said he's a slow grower... he was healthy otherwise so vet said it wasn't a cause for concern yet.
Last night Sebastian ate before bed and I put him in his large dog crate with his basket and litter box. I woke up this morning and he was struggling to stand, he'd just fall back over. I picked him up and he was pretty cold. He's very alert, just staring at me and purring loudly. He kept trying to stand up but I was afraid he'd hurt himself, so now he's wrapped in a blanket in my arms. I made him some formula but he wouldn't open his mouth for it, although he acted like he wanted the can food but couldn't figure out how to get it. I poked some of the "gravy" through his lips and he enjoyed it but didn't want much.
Any ideas what could be wrong? He was perfectly fine last night.

Little Sebastian just passed away in my arms. He just yelled and yelled, and stared at me. I told him it was ok to go if he had to and to go find all of our RB kitties and dogs. He took one more breath and then was gone.

Awww poor little one - its hard when you have to bottle feed kittens and with an unknown background and probably poor health on the mother, he's got a lot of stricks against him.

You do so well in rescuing your kittens and rehoming. Sometimes you loose a few. I hope he pulls thru, but don't be too hard on yourself if you don't.

Healing vibes and prayers coming your way.

When they get cold they shut down. They can get cold for so many reasons that is why keeping them warm is so important. You did the best you could with him and at least he died in your arms and not in some field without knowing what it was like to be cared for. A tiny bit of coffee (black) might have helped, hard to know because as someone said, these kittens can be born with genetic defects, infectious diseases, and a myriad of other problems. I am sorry you lost him. I know how much that hurts and how you are probably beating yourself up and saying you should have done more. You DID all you could, and you didn't walk away from him in his hour of need.

I'm sorry.
You are essentially helpless....when they are so young they often die for what seems no reason.

Aww so sorry that you lost Sebastian

Our kitten Sadee almost died around 4 weeks old. Sadees body was completely limp & she started to shake. Normally she prances around all happy. It turns out that Spooky wasn't nursing her enough. We thought we were going to lose her, we both cried & cried. We fed her a little formula & she turned out to be okay & now shes back to her old happy self
