Asher is very good about not scratching the furniture. He only scratches the scratching post and his cardboard.

Jack on the other hand is a climber. He's still very young (approx. 10 weeks) and climbs on the couch and occasionally scratches it. I correct him and I think he's slowly learning but to be on the safe side I started clipping his claws. I read on here to use a towel and wrap him up in it while I trim his claws. It works like a charm!
He doesn't enjoy it but he does good enough that I can get both front paws done in one sitting. I usually wait a few days before I do the back ones. I just wanted to say what a great tip this is!

Congratulations - he will get better each time you do it.

In between times of trimming (and should be done once a week to check and clip as needed), you should play with his feet/toes while he's sleepy so he doesn't mind as much.

If you establish a routine and do it often, you won't need to be wrapping him in a towel and can do all 4 feet before letting him go
