I posted last weekend about a puppy that John and I were supposed to go meet. Well, John finally got back from the auction but the woman still couldn't get ahold of the people that had the puppy.
Well, the woman finally called me a couple hours later. Turns out, it was a third party deal and she didn't know about it at the time. She thought it was her co-worker's puppy but it ended up belonging to a friend of the co-worker or something like that.

Well, we hopped in the car to go meet her and were 20 miles away when John started feeling sick. We kept going, but when we were 11 miles away he couldn't go any further and we turned around and came back home.
I was disappointed but I wasn't mad at John and I called the woman and told her what happened. She let me know the next day that someone else had adopted the puppy.

So we started looking again. I found a litter of Pit Bull/Lab mix puppies that will be ready next weekend and we were going to go look sometime next weekend and possibly adopt. I also found a Pit Bull puppy a few miles from here but it's another "third party" deal, the woman's aunt is fostering the pup for her but the aunt's husband wants to sell the pup now instead of giving her away. So it wasn't looking like that one was going to work out either. So I kept looking.

Then, I was on a random web page last night and there was a picture of a dog. John said "awwwwwwwwww, I want that". It was a picture of a Jack Russell Terrier. We had a JRT that passed away around the same time as our Pit Bull/Lab mix earlier this year. It was a sudden death, and we have no idea what happened to him. Jack was John's buddy. We had rescued him from a home where he was mistreated (kept tied to a chain 24/7 even in the winter, and was fed cigarettes
). He had so many issues but we loved him.

Out of pure coincidence I found an ad that a friend of mine had posted, needing to find homes for some of her dogs. She just had surgery and can no longer care for them. I emailed to see if I could help her out, and she told me about one of the dogs... a Jack Russell Terrier.

He's 4 years old, wire haired, very good dog, knows lots of commands/tricks, but she can't keep him inside of her fence. We're going to meet him tonight and most likely will be bringing him home. We only have to go about 3 miles so if John gets sick, he can just deal with it till we get back
.
So we went from wanting a female Pit Bull/mix under 12 weeks old, to probably adopting a male Jack Russell that's 4 years old. I'll definitely update everyone (with pictures!) tonight or tomorrow.

Oh, and we've taken in another abandoned pregnant kitty... we are officially crazy people!

Here is a quick picture I got.

I put him in a crate because he is so terrified right now. The choke collar HAS to go, and he needs a good bath and grooming. I don't want to stress him out too much for now though. The lady that had him is WONDERFUL. I met her a few years ago when I was working for animal control and she adopted a dog we had. She rescues dogs and loves them so much but she just had surgery and can't keep them all anymore. Now that we've adopted this little guy, she's down to about 11 dogs. I'm going to help her place more as well.

He looks petrified!! POor boy.
I think it was quite a shock to be away from the large pack of other dogs. I've worked with dogs for many years and worked as an animal control officer... and last night was the most dogs I've had surrounding me at one time in my life. I think I counted 12 with our little guy but may have miscounted there were so many. The second we put our boy in the car he layed down and fell asleep almost instantly. He acted so relieved. We've got three other dogs but they're calm compared to the personalities of his former brothers and sisters.

For a Jack Russell, he is soooooooo calm and laid back. Our last JRT was bouncing off the walls all the time, and every JRT I've met has been the same way. This guy knows commands/tricks, walks calmly on a leash, is completely housetrained, doesn't mind his crate, leaves the kitties alone, etc. He growls a little when the other dogs get in his face but isn't aggressive at all towards them. I can groom him, trim his nails, and he'll roll over on his back... he's extremely submissive. I'm just not used to this at all!

Here are a couple more pictures that we took last night, more to come later if I can find batteries for the camera.

Are you gonna call him "Mo" then?
No, it just doesn't seem to fit. We've thought of a few names, but haven't decided on anything yet... so we're going to make a list.
