No, not those big enormous gas guzzlers.
Think way smaller, faster, and prettier

Give up?

These silly!

I have been waiting for these little jewels all summer! I am so glad they have finally arrived. The first few weeks there was about 3 of them. After tryingto count them last night, I think we are up to about 20!!!!!! Mostly girls, but a few young males that are starting to get their red gorget in.

The main species we have around here is the ruby throat. There are other visitors to the area, but they do not nest here. I have yet to see them either

Got any cool ones around? I'd LOVE to see them!!!!!

They're beautiful. I'm so glad you didn't mean the monstrosity of a vehicle!

Thanks

The only harm there is that they may leave your yard for a "stocked" yard

Don't forget to clean them if you do refill them. Once a month in a very dilute bleach water solution ---everytime you refill, make sure to rinse with hot water to prevent mold and bacteria from growing in them

What great pictures! Those little buggers are hard to photograph!
I love them too. I just cleaned out my feeder and provided them with fresh nectar. So far they are enjoying it!

Those are great pictures. I love hummingbirds and have had feeders out for two years and no one came.

But around July I finally saw one and can now say I have a hummingbird that comes every day. I was so excited to see him the first time. I love them.

Great photos, but where I come from, a "hummer" means something else. I can't go into it on this site...

They're beautiful! I don't think we having humming birds this far north, or at least I've never seen any.

Amazing how they can flap their wings so fast that they can stay in one spot lie that to drink from a feeder.

Me too

They are cute little things!

When I was younger we had one get in the house once

It was the cutest thing!
My dad was able to get it to land on his finger and careful take it outside. (he has a way with animals
)
After that every few weeks it would come back in the backdoor and visit with my dad.

He would buzz around the lampshade next to him.. His name was.... Buzz

I love hummers! They are my favorite species out of all the bird species. I'm hoping that if I ever get my digiscope, I will be able to take some nice hummer pics next spring....

Excellent pics!

The shorter daylight hours may have them tanking up for migration south. And you may get some who have migrated from farther north.

Thank you for the compliments

And for those of you with your mind in the gutter
I've never heard that particular slang, but can pretty much guess

catloverin_kc: Dusk/dawn are the best times to see a bunch of them and get up close. They are all trying to get their fill of nectar before heading to bed.
As far as the nectar goes- the store I go to only had 1 gigantic package of the nectar stuff. I went ahead and bought since it was the last one. You can make nectar very quickly and inexpensively (<- sp?) by making a sugar water solution. Combine 1 part regular white sugar to 4 parts water
Make sure to never use honey, brown sugar, sugar substitutes, jello, red food coloring or fruit in the feeder(s). These can ferment and kill the birds.
The regular sugar water or pre made mixes can harbor mold and bacteria as well. I've already said to rinse them every time you refill them with hot water- but it is also important to clean them at least once a month with a very very mild bleach solution when it is hot outside to prevent mold/bacteria. If you don't like bleach, vinegar can be used instead
with both, make sure you rinse very well before refilling. Just do not use soap/detergents to clean the feeders. Hummingbirds (no I will not say hummers anymore!) apparently do not like the smell or taste of it.

Duchess15: If you get a digiscope, I will be sooooo jelous!!!!!!!

Hope you get it soon! I can't wait to see those pics!

I ordered it June 26, but it's on backorder so I have to wait for Nikon to produce more. We are going to Rockport, TX next week for the Hummingbird Festival, but it looks like my scope won't be here on time.

I ordered the scope from http://www.adorama.com/NKFS82ED.html. I already have the camera that will attach. Just don't have everything else.
