My 13 year old kitten

I have a 13 year old cat named Sam. He still finds ways to climb on high things such as the garage roof or patio roof. He has always acted like a kitten until about a week ago. While on my lap one day as I touched his lower back he yelled in pain. My husband took him to the vet and the vet found nothing out of the ordinary. Said he probably took a fall and gave us some pain medication for Sam. He still is not himself. Although the pain seems to be going away, he seems to have aged years in the past week. He's way less affectionate and almost distant.

WOW 13 years old! I hope my babies stay with me for that long. its so hard to know something is wrong but you dont know what to do. I hope your baby feels better soon!

DID the vet do a senior blood panel>?>> take an xray ??

Just want to say thank you for all your replies. Sam is feeling much better and pretty much back to normal. I was really worried about him!
