Unfortunately I'm not. The design process for software is really screwed up and security is the last thing on anyone's mind, either open source or privitized software. When you think about it, Linux is open source, meaning anyone can have access to the basic code. Even though Ubuntu is manufactured (or not open sourced) it's still based on the same code that is published on the Linux Project.Originally Posted by sarahp
You've got to be kidding!!!!! Windows machines get soooo many more viruses than Mac and Linux! I rarely boot up my Windows machine, and it's pretty secure, and last time I booted it up it was running weirdly and it turned out to have a virus! Whenever we go back home, DH spends a good few hours cleaning up my mum's Windows computer because it's so messed up.
The only reason why Windows receives so many more viruses is because windows is the dominate OS. If Macs take over the OS Market, then the same people writing scripts to destroy windows machines will start to write the scripts to destroy the Macs.
Take the iPhone for example. That was hacked into before it ever reached the hands of the users...but that was still placed on the shelves. Software in general is placed in the market because of deadlines, rather than because they're secure. It's all about profit!
The good news is that lawyers are on capitol hill trying to get laws passed to make common practises of software writing turned into laws.
