hi all,

a couple of days ago out of nowhere an adult female cat appeared with 3 kittens (quite young) under a tree on my driveway.

One of the kittens then procedded to climb into my neighbours car engine and took around 7 hours to come out.

now the cats have set up camp on my driveway, with my dog going mad for them and a driveway is not the ideal place for kittens.

so i rang my local RSPCA who basically gave me another number to a local animal shelter, who i then rang and they said there was no room and passed my to another number, and now everytime i ring a number they pass me off onto somone else.

How do i get rid of these cats ????? i am an animal lover and would not like to see these cats get harmed in anyway but there becoming a nuisance, doing there business on my lawn. They shouldnt be my responsibility really but i dont want them to stay there until there old enough to go off on there own,
Also i dont then want the cat to return each time it gets pregnant, because where they are is quite a snug spot.

Can anyone offer any advice ?

Will they just go off on there own accord, how long will it take before they move on ?

It is hard to say what to do. Try going to petfinder.com and look up all the shelters in your area. Call them and seeif any of them can take the cat and kittens. Realize that most shelters are completely full and won't take them, but there may be a waiting list you can get on.

You can also post on your local craigslist.com and ask for some help. Maybe a local rescuer can take them. But be careful who responds, both sites are prone to scammers sending you emails. If any reply is in broken english, refers to your "pet" instead of the specific cat, offers to wire you a lot of money, just delete those emails.

i dont want to have to put my name on any waiting list, there not my cats or anything to do with me, i just want them gone, i know that sounds harsh

i suppose it comes down to, how long before the kittens go off on there own ? at least if i can get rid of them it gives me a chance to put something down incase they come back...... It may be the case i have to catch them and take them to my local shelter and force them to take them. again i know it sounds harsh but i already have pets, which are dogs which hate cats. I cant let my dog out incase it gets to the kittens. Not to mention all the neighbours kids coming on my drive to have a look scratching my car.

When reading this message i dont want anyone to get the impression i dont like cats, i do like them and the kittens are incredibly cute, but i guess i want them to be someone elses problem to be honest, and to not have to think about them in the rain anymore. I think partially why the RSPCA dont seem to be bothered is because cats tend to look after themselves, i think if it were puppies it would be a different story, well if they were puppies they'd be in my house for sure !

what i mean is if the cats become old enough where they go off on there own i can then put some kind of repellant down incase they return. i dont know much about cats so dont know if they'll return because its such a cosy spot.

Good turn of events people.....

Just now a neighbour came round after the mother of the kittens went to their house and tried stealing food from their cats. They followed the cat to my house and saw the kittens.

There offered to give them a good home obviously i didnt refuse.
You could tell by the way they handled them they knew what they were doing.

At least now i know there not sleeping in the rain.

Ive put some pepper powder down in the area they were living in, just incase one gets out and decides to return to the spot. Im not sure pepper powder works though because i spilt some on the floor and my dog started licking it

It just shows you how much strain the animal welfare services are under. Yes they were no help , but thats only because they couldnt do anything and had no room. I will defonately start making a donation from now on and would urge others to do the same
