Can anyone recommend a spray on product that would keep my cats off of some of the furniture (specifically needlepoint covered chairs). They have scratching posts but can't seem to resist the needlepoint. I am looking for some sort of spray rather than using aluminum foil, motion detectors etc. I have a product called no scratch but it is expensive and in my past experience did not work that great. Can anyone recommend a good commercial spray (preferably that doesn't cost an arm and a leg). I heard that using lemon scented airfreshner works- anyone ever try this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Some cats don't like lemon, yeah. That's worth trying.

Another TCS member (forget who) mentioned that she used to put towels or blankets over the couch that her cats scratched, so whenever they tried it, they pulled the towels down on their heads. Naturally the cats didn't like having to wiggle out from under the towels, and eventually stopped scratching the couch.

I'm assuming you have a good scratching post for the cats, so they have something appropriate to sink their claws into... Try rubbing catnip on that, to attract them to it, and putting it pretty close to their old scratching spots.

I've used Febreeze citrus-scented upholstery deodorizer, and it should deter a cat that detests citrus scent. However, the effect is short-lived and I don't know what it would do to the upholstery if you apply it frequently over a long period of time.

Where whiskers abound.
Keep a spray bottle of vinegar nearby, it works. Spray now and then when they do that, they'll get the message. If your not home, put a vinegar soaked cloth inside an open container and put it on the furniture.

FYI, fleas hate vinegar too.
