If anyone can help me with this it would be great. About 6 months ago I noticed that my cat's fur on his back looked funny. It felt sticky to the touch. He is an indoor only cat, so I assumed he must have gotten under the sink or gone somewhere that cleaning supplies or shampoos were kept. The spots turned into mats even after repeated attempts with a slicker, so I reluctantly shaved the spots out. His fur grew back, only this time it was much worse. There were more mats and they were bigger. I bought a de-matting tool and used it as well as giving him a bath. After drying I noticed what looked like oily streaks on the fur on his back. These weird little wet spots or secretions. His fur gets crusty from the secretions even after using a slicker on him twice a day. Does anyone know what this could be? I've searched all over the internet and haven't found anything.

Cats can have skin issues and they range in variety just like in humans. The best thing would be to take your kitty to the vet to have it sorted out. Making sure your cat is on a premium food, in addition, will help.

My first thought would be an abcess, but if his fur has grown back after shaving and it's still happening... how long has it been happening and what did his skin look like when you shaved him?

And, agree with Pami, a vet is going to be the only way to determine what it really is and treat it. Here on the internets we can only speculate.
