so yeah...

my night was actually going pretty well.

his family invited me over for dinner just like old times.

i already had planned to go to my job and play with one of the dogs like normal.

he is a beautiful dog...

well i let him out and i was playing with him, but the resident cat darted out in front of him and he chased it a bit. he would have killed the kitten, had i not interviened and gotten attacked myself.

I have a deep gash on my left arm and it is swollen badly.

I don't know why he did it. he was a gentile dog and i didn't know he would do that to the hand that feeds him...

to top it all off, i had brought his little sister to play with the kitten who was almost attacked. she saw the whole thing. the dog went for the neck...

luckily it was my upper arm...

.... sigh...
then i went into the back room to get some vet wrap, and my cats got loose from their condo and one ran out, and his sister saw him... DARN IT!

the minute i dropped her off at home she ran right to her dad and told her what happened i bet...

my life is exciting and great but when this happens it really hits home...

How is your arm today? Dogs can be unpredictable with small animals that look like prey.

Im sure the dog probably didn't mean to bite you. Sometimes they get caught up in the heat of the moment and don't realize what thier biting. I've seen it happen before.

I am sure it was not an intentional bite. Some animals have what is called redirected aggression. When they are in the heat of the moment and someone or something intervenes they will lash out at the thing that is stopping them. Its not that they mean to bite you its more like getting whatever is holding them back to stop.

Did this happen at a shelter or someone's house. Either way I hope the dog is not PTS for this. And I hope your arm gets better. Have you been to a doctor yet?

sadly thats what happens when we decide to break up a fight or something with ourselves. The dog will not realise that it is the "hand that feeds him" because of the state of mind he is in at the time. I have been bitten by doing the same thing when i was about 9-10. I was saving my grans maltese from a friends rottweiler (it would have been a light snack for that thing lol) and i got bitten on the face, the teeth went into my mouth and one came out through the skin near my nose, im lucky i only have 1 scar near my nose from it. But have since learned when breaking up a fight or trying to stop one happening you need to distract the dog with something else to get it out of that frame of mind. Havea hose handy, turn that on it. Throw a ball gently at the back of the dog. Most likley itll look at what just hit it and forget about the cat running past. (well in my case it has ne ways) Just try and keep bodyparts away.
