Wet Food Too Rich?

Julius is now 11 weeks old and he's been with me for almost three weeks now. These past two days, he's been having some really stinky farts...constantly. For a small thing like him, it really smells!

I asked a few people this and someone suggested that perhaps his diet/food is too rich. He is eating 1/2 can of Go! Natural in the AM and then about 1/3 cup of Fromm kitten kibbles in the PM (or should I say, to munch on throughout the day).

Would this likely be the problem of the wet or dry food? If it's the Go! Natural that's causing this, should I perhaps try to switch to Merrick's? Any other brand might help with this?

Thanks!

It could be his food. I don't think Merrick's would be that less rich.

Since he is such a young kitty, I would be inclined to feed him a good quality kitten food (no by-products, dyes nor too many grains). Sharky has the smarts on food so she'll no doubt be able to suggest a few. Did you change his food recently or has he always been eating the Go and Fromm?

I'd also give him wet at least twice a day with the kitten kibble as free feed, especially if you aren't home during the day to give him lunch.

Kittens need to eat small meals often. Changing his food quickly can also have an impact on his digestive system and can cause diarrhea and/or stinky poofs!

Hang tight and Sharky will be along soon.

I would also suggest leaving the dry food out all the time. Maybe go with Felidae chicken and Rice wet food, that is what my young kitties are on and no gas..

He's been dewormed, so most likely not a worm issue. He came to me on IAMS a few weeks ago but ever since he stepped foot in this house, he's been eating Fromm and Go! Natural.

I have started leaving food out all the time for him now and he eats no more than 1/3 cup.

Thanks for the responses! If anyone else has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Is the Fromms the duck version by chance>??? Duck is a very very rich meat that may not be tolerated well... From what I have seen go natural is good stuff and seemed basic...

DID you mix the Iams with the Fromms???

I second the check again for worms , kittens sometimes need three worming s to be rid of them

I'm using the kitten version of Fromm which does in fact include duck and chicken meal -- duck being the first ingredient. Do they make different kitten formulas? I didn't see it on the shelf
And IF they don't have another formula, what should I do?

Yeap, I gradually switched him over from IAMS to Fromm over the span of a week.

He has been dewormed twice already -- is it necessary to do it again? It's not harmful to be dewormed so many times in just a few weeks?

Thanks!

Have a vet do a float stool sample ..

Try to find a more basic food ... what other brands did you see at the store you by Fromms at?? Often kittens need 14-21 days for a switch over

Well, they have almost everything. And if not, usually I can find it at another store. I chose Fromm because I've been pleased with this brand on my dog previously. The only other thing I was remotely interested in was Orijen, but I won't go that route yet, not at this point when he's still a kitten. Guess I might have to go back there and scope out all the ingredients list again.

Yeah, I realized afterwards that I could've spent more time transitioning him over, but this smelly issue just started these past 3 days, after he was fully on Fromm for a couple of weeks. Actually, come to think about it...I haven't smelled anything ever since yesterday afternoon. I'll wait a day or two more and then if it continues, I'll speak to my vet promptly.

Thanks Sharky for all your help!
