August 2007 is by far the warmest on record for Memphis! (lucky me)

Avg daily high --- 99.1 degrees!! 8 degrees higher than normal average.
(previous record 97.6 - 1980)

Avg daily temp -- 88.6
(previous record 87.2 - 1980)

This is where it gets good....

9 straight days of 100 plus weather

10 days when record hi temps were reached
(previously only 3 dates reached in 1943)

28 consecutive days of 95 plus!! OMG! I KNOW you are jealous now!!

13 days of 100 plus....

106 highest August temp EVER!!!

0 number of days when the high was AT or BELOW normal.

*sarcasm* I really must say how much I LOVE this city... someone, please, send us some cold air!!

I am REALLY glad that August is over. Our averages for next week are predicted to be in the lower and mid 90s. I can't wait.

I must move away...

I know how you feel... its been pretty miserable on the other end of TN too!
I just wish the humidity would drop a bit and I'd be fine!

...and then you put a cat on top of that, and you've really got somethin'.

Today's high according to the P.C. was 102; it's forecast up to 111 tomorrow.

Yeah, I know -- but at least we don't have quite the Sauna EFX you have.

Pile on the felines.
I know I do!

I've had enough of these 100 degree days. I'm ready for fall...or winter even!!

It was crazy this year. We had 14 people die from the heat. I finally learned why humidity is so bad. I always knew it was horrible, but I now know the science behind it.

What I learned: When your body is hot, you sweat to cause the water to evaporate off of you and cool your body. When the humidity is high, you sweat, but the air is already so saturated that it can not hold any more evaporation. You don't get cooler. I also heard that this means that you don't feel it necessarily when you start to dehydrate like you would out west.

I know when I wait until midnight to go to the store and it is still 96 outside, really makes you reconsider. I feel like I need a shower all the time.

Most of the people that died this summer were elderly. They said a lot of them had arthritis and complained that they were in more pain when cool air hit them. They wouldn't turn the air conditioners on. Very very sad....

OUCH. That is really sad. And probably very true for them, too. Plus the expense and a lot of older people aren't exactly rolling in money...Yeah, I know it's like that in the Caribbean, south Asia, and a lot of other places, probably...my mom used to wet sheets and sleep on them outside! (Well, it was safer then and there...) 96 at midnight? That's unreal! And that's really interesting about the facts - never knew that, but it's logical. I sure don't envy you and hope you do everything you can to stay safe! through this heat.
