Ginger and Penny's continuing battle for alpha generally takes place as very short spats.

As Ginger has come to realize, screaming loudly, literally SCREECHING when Penny confronts her is more effective than using claws, therefore she is employing this technique more and more. Penny is the stronger, tougher kitty, but Ginger has the shrillest screech!

Tuesday night, as I was preparing food dishes, Ginger was in the kitchen counter window, and Penny and Ferris were on the floor. I had my back turned to them, washing the cat bowls, when a terrible caterwaul came from the window, followed quickly by a very loud thump.

I spun around to find Ginger sitting in the windowsill, glaring down at Penny who had just leapt off the counter at Ginger's scream. I guess Penny had wanted to look out the window, but Ginger said "No stinking way, BACK OFF, you stupid Bengal!"

Then last night, I was asleep, it was after midnight, when suddenly I was startled awake by the sound of Ginger SCREECHING at Penny from just inside my bedroom door.

I remember waking up enough to say, 'Girls, please, no fighting in my bedroom." Then I passed out again.

This morning, I saw Ginger take a swipe at Penny just because she was running past her.

Oh, those two...they really do crack me up!

Ginger's a TORTIE - with the famous tortie attitude

Sometimes I wonder if Ling is a tortie (mom was a calico) and she's mouthy when Charlie picks on her.

But Keno breaks up the argument, so sometimes I think that Ling does it on purpose!

screeching is how Posey tried to assert his dominance over Hades, but Hades was not impressed. I really was not impressed to being woken up in the middle of the night by said screech, so I feel your pain, Betsy!

It's a relatively new phenomenon within our household dynamics, so I'm not quite used to it yet. For 40 years, that sound is one I've only ever heard from a distance, from cats fighting (or mating) outside somewhere in the neighborhood, and the sound carries quite well.

To have it occur at full volume less than 6 feet away is quite the experience!
I'm wondering what the neighbors will think is going on!
