I went to our local animal shelter and adopted a female Siamese Bluepoint cross 8 week old kitten. She is beautiful!! She is now 3 months old and will not have a thing to do with me even though I feed and love her. She does, however, love my husband who does none of the aforementioned. What am I doing wrong? I am gentle with her and she was to be "my" cat. Now I am wondering if there is something wrong with me. My husband says no, but we can't see that I do anything to irritate her. Help!!!

You're doing nothing wrong so don't blame yourself!! I've heard that female cats often prefer a male human and vice-versa. I know it's not much comfort but cats are awkward animals and will never do what you want them to do! It's nearly like she senses your need for approval and is tormenting you further because of it.

I don't really know if there is a huge amount you can do unless you'd like to get a second cat that is male as they tend to be more affectionate in my experience, especially after they are neutered.

Try not to be hard on yourself. From what you've described, I don't see there's anything preventing her from liking you.

Do you play with her?

If not, I would try to play with her everyday for a little while at least.

Does she let you hold her? Holding her, talking to her, petting her.. those are all good affectionate things to try if she will tolerate it.

Playing with her would be my first thing to try though.

Siamese are kinda notorious about picking one special person. Maybe you can adopt a laid back male kitten (neutered) that will bond with you

Try ignoring her. They say the reason why cats go to the one person in the room who doesn't like them is because they're the one not looking at them and paying them a lot of attention. I read somewhere that in the cat world staring is considered rude, so maybe they see lots of attention as bad sometimes. I don't know if it will work, but what do you have to lose.

Seconded. Definitely worked a little on my female who is madly in love with my husband.

Although, I have to emphasize that it only worked a LITTLE on my female. The only thing that completely fixed this situation for us is we got a second cat...this time a male who is utterly obsessed with me.

If she has Siamese in her then she's likely to prefer one person over others, it's fairly typical of their personality! I find it quite an endearing trait, even though my Oriental boy Sonic has taken to my husband in a big way and cuddles him all night even tho he was, technically-speaking, my Christmas present from my husband and parents!!!!

I agree that getting another cat of around the same age would be a good idea, if she has other Siamese traits then she'll really appreciate some feline company, they aren't keen on being left alone and can get bored and lonely. You can also spend some time picking out a kitten that takes to you best, so you will then have one each to cuddle
