Where whiskers abound.
Is the sink or tub or container already filled with luke warm water?
Are you using a very mild soap or shampoo for cats?

Most don't like water, you have to be brave and just put her in and tell her what your going to do and do it! Don't wash her face, you can later wipe her face down with a soft damp cloth, you wouldn't want to get any soap in her eyes.

So you'll probably get a few scratches, but, she will thank you afterward when she is fluffy and clean and purring away.

ETA: Don't forget to rinse her well, cats need to be rinsed well.

Its not hard to wash a cat/kitten. But its a lot easier if you have an uncooperative cat to have 2 people - one to hold, one to shampoo and rinse.

Charlie got washed in the sink first time and he hated it. He gets washed in the tub now and has no problem.

Put down a mat or towel in the bottom of the tub so the cat doesn't slip. Only put 2-3 inches deep of warm water and use a washcloth to help wet the coat from the skin up.

Only use a small amount of shampoo in the coat - wash from neck down. And keep rinsing till there is no soap left in the coat - then rinse again

And trim all the nails BEFORE you put them in the water. If you have a longhair cat, they must have every tangle/knot out of the coat before wetting/washing and should be combed/blow dry after the bath.

Yes, a cat shampoo is best. They are made with ingredients known to be safe for a cat. Even though some use Human shampoos and don't have problems, they are made with ingredients safe for humans and it is not worth taking a chance. Stay away from any shampoo with tea tree oil in it. Dawn dishwashing liquid is safe for cats. When bathing, always follow with a final rinse of 2-3 gallons of water and 2-3 tablespoons of white vinegar. It helps to rinse out the soap and restore ph balance.
