Woohoo!! It arrived tonight, and we've spent the last couple of hours reading through manuals and playing with it seeing what different buttons do.

We ended up getting a Nikon D80, and a Nikkor 50mm lens, a Sigma 28-70mm lens and a Nikkor 55-200mm lens. Already I'm not terribly impressed with the Sigma lens, but I've barely used it so won't pass judgement yet.

The camera overall is really nice and very easy to use - playing with the manual settings has been pretty easy, we just have to figure out when to fiddle with what things

Expect lots of kitty photos coming up...

Cool!

What is the difference between the d50 and d80? I have the d50 and love it!
I have to admit I`m still using the idiot modes though because the manual makes my brain ache

Enjoy!

No idea....
I believe the D50 is discontinued, and the D80 is maybe a model up? I have on idea what's actually different though

And yes - the manuals do make your brain hurt!!!! There's an instructional DVD you can get for specific models, and there's definitely a D80 one which I'll be getting - you should see if there's a D50 version. I learn better when I see it rather than read it, so maybe it'll be less confusing!

That`s funny! I learn better by looking too. That sounds a bit daft. What i mean is I have to picture things to learn them or my brain just frazzles

Ooh! The dvd sounds like a good idea. Will have to investigate
It`s a shame to have such a nice camera and not use it to it`s full potential.
I`ve got a Sigma lens too but I`ve never had a posh one so i don`t notice a differerence but I`ve heard some people say they aren`t great but they are affordable.

At the kitty's beck and call
YAY!!!! Congrats on the new camera. I can't wait to see your photos.

We've just bought a D40x for my daughter's 21st birthday and I'm gearing up for a D80 for a combined Christmas and birthday pressie
I'm still trying to decide on the lens(es) that I would like with it.

For lenses, definitely get the 50mm lens! I got the Nikon one and it was only $102, and has been fabulous so far.
