I've started to look at listings for a new place to live and keep coming across this term:

EIK

It's usually listing with LR, DR, FR, etc...which I do understand all those. I'm guessing it has something to do with the kitchen?

Eat in kitchen. It means that that you have enough room in your kitchen for a small table for breakfast.

Oh I'd love an eat in kitchen! Usually that means you lose the dining room, but for me that's fine. The dining room quickly becomes a collection of stuff on the table that has little to do with dining. LOL

when I first saw this thread title I thought you were asking about Elk

I have never heard that phrase myself
I eat at my coffee table on the couch,t even though I do have a kitchen table in my eat-in-kitchen

Not necessarily - at least not here in Canada. Usually having the EIK is just an added bonus. The dining room is for more "formal" gatherings and the eat-in kitchen is for everyday.

Oooo! Thanks

That totally makes sense. Like you Katie, I kept reading it as "Elk"
so I kept thinking "There's an Elk that comes with this house??"

Any of the apartments I looked at here when I moved recently, it meant you lost a regular dining room. I don't have either one really. We eat in the living room since it is just the two of us. We have a little table in the dining "area" but no chairs, lol.

If I were moving to Maine, I might not second guess it, but since NJ, I highly doubt there is a high enough Elk population to keep one at many of the houses.

Now, that would be funny. I'd love to see a cat take on an elk.
