Just wanted to update everybody on my Katie girl and request some additional vibes/prayers if you can spare them. As I mentioned, she wasn't
thrilled with the wet food my vet suggested, so we've been trying a variety of good quality canned kitten food, most of which she's just picked at. I've been increasingly concerned over the past few days, because she's also been picky about eating several different flavors of Fancy Feast I offered and she's always gobbled the stuff down the the passed. She also vomitted several times over the weekend.

Spoke to our vet this afternoon and she mentioned the possibility of pancreatitis. She recommended treat Katie with Pepcid AC (1/4 table a day) for the next few days to see if that helps alleviate the vomitting. We're also going ahead with another full blood panel to see if that points to kidney failure or other issues. The vet also mentioned the possibility of stomach cancer, although it's rare in cats.

Katie seems to be feeling fine, no change in her habits or behavior, but I'm still worried. If anyone has any ideas that my vet hasn't considered, please let me know. Otherwise, your continued vibes/prayers for my sweet baby girl are much appreciated. Thanks, guys!

Many prayers and vibes for Katie...not sure if she would lick this stuff...but Nutri-cal has a high calorie supplement that they lick from a tube like hairball meds...I was giving it to Bella when she was sick to help her keep weight on...after a few months she got sick of it though.

You and your Katie are in my thoughts. Having just gone through some craziness with a certain little black kitty girl, I will keep my fingers crossed in hopes you can figure out what the problem is and that it's easily treatable. 14 is technically a senior, but still relatively young. Here's hoping you find out what it is, fix it up, and enjoy another 14 years together.

That's a great idea. Thanks! It's definitely worth a try.

Thanks so much. I followed your threads on Lucy and am so relieved to hear she's doing better. Those little black kitty girls sure like to worry us don't they?

Thanks to everybody for the vibes/prayers. Katie took her Pepcid without too much fuss this morning. I feel terrible about this but, based on the vet's advice, am keeping her isolated for the next few days (when I'm not home) to rule out any of the other one's vomitting, check for any evidence of increased urination, and get some idea of how much dry food she's eating.

Will keep you posted.

This is my first post. I lost a cat about two years ago that suffered somewhat similar issues. Here are some things you should ask your vet.

What exactly was the thyroid level? Senior thyroid levels should be lower than the norm for adult cats. I can't remember the exact number but I think normal for a senior cat should be 2 or less. Someone on this site probably knows the exact number. If the level is higher than this (closer to 4), your cat probably should receive treatment for the thyroid.

You also mentioned pancreatitis in your post. Feel the hair under your cat's tail, close to the base. Do you feel a greasy residue? If it is, that means your cat is not absorbing certain nutrients from its food and is passing it out. Your vet can prescribe an enzyme for your cat to take with its food.

Also, did your vet feel your cat's intestines to check for IBD? Were they inflammed? A low dose of prednisone or flagyl could help.

I agree with the other poster about Nutri-cal. My cat loved it and it seemed to help settle his stomach.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to TCS!

Thanks so much for the info. I'll be checking in with our vet today or tomorrow and will be sure to ask about about Katie's thyroid levels. She didn't mention numbers, just that they were slightly elevated, but still within normal range. Will also check under her tail when I get home from work today. Our vet did feel her intestines and didn't find them to be inflamed.

Thanks again!

For senior cats, T4 should typically be below 2.5 (ref range of 0.8 to 4.0--different labs have different reference ranges). I'd definitely ask for copies of all the bloodwork.

Thanks for the vibes/prayers, everybody.
Sorry for not posting an update sooner. Katie's T4 was 3.0, slightly elevated for a senior kitty but not high enough to consider treating her for hyperthyroidism for now, per our vet.

We actually just came from the vet for a weigh-in and Katie has gained back more than a pound. This is the news we wanted to hear!
Looks like the change in diet, extra wet food and daily pepcid are doing the trick. She's been eating and doing way less begging for human food. Since she's not showing any other symptoms (stools are good, litterbox usage normal, etc...), we're going to hold off on any additional testing for now and continue to monitor her eating habits and weight. Will run another senior blood panel when she's due in Jan., or sooner if need be.

Thanks so much from me and Katie!
