Hate going to be so early!

I'ts only 7:45pm here and I'm getting ready to go to bed in about an hour. It's so hard because it's usually still day light outside when I lay down.

I'm currently in school for radiologic technology (x-ray tech). It's a two year program, full-time, year-round and I just started my second year I go to class Tuesday and Thursday and MWF I am at my clinical site all day. We have 8 different sites and we do 2 month rotations at each one. Some of them are quite far from where I live. The one I'm at now is an hour one way (my next one is 1 1/2 hours away!). I have to be there by 7am which means I have to get up at 4:30am in order to get around and leave by 5:45am.

I'm not one who can get by on just a few hours of sleep, I need at least 7-8 in order to function so I have to go to bed around 8-9pm. I know it's not that early but it's too early for me to be tired so I usually end up laying in bed for an hour before I actually fall asleep.

I just want to be done with school and have a job! I'm tired of being a student (I went to college after high school. I've been in school too long!) Thanks for listening to my vent!

I hear ya. When I have to be at work for 6, I have to get up at 4:30, to leave at a little past 5. And I'm like you - I need 8 hours of sleep to function, if not more. And this week, I will be doing the 6 o'clock shift. Which means I have to go to bed soon. But I'm not even really tired.

I can so relate!

When I started nursing school I lived across town and it was 2 or 3 buses and several blocks to walk. Clinical days were terrible because I too am not a morning person and researching my patient meant a late night the night before.

I ended up moving a 1/2 block from school and that was the best thing I could have done. It made things so much better. Plus I started to save the information I gathered on blood work, disease processes and tests so that I could use the information for future patient assignments which also lessoned the load for me.

Only one more year and you will be done and in the work force. But I have to warn you that the hours don't get any better and instead of only 3 days a week you have usually 5 or 7 and shift work to boot. But get through school, get a job and then move closer to where you work! Travelling long distances to work or school especially when it works out to 2 or 3 hours a day is awful
