Hello there,

I need some advice....

I recently saw this 2 yr old Sphynx for sale/adopting.... now it has a grade 3 heart mumor and polyps in his throat (he has been spayed though). So the lady said she would take any offer for this Sphynx because she is too busy to take care of him. Now, I asked her some more questions about the cat and I don't really know what to think of the answered I received. Tell me what you think after reading her and I's conversations:

SiameseFrenzy:
Hello,
What kind of special requirements does your little kitty require? Any special medication? Is he able to get his polyps removed? If so, what has a vet advised you on costs and treatment? Also, does he like other kitties or is he a dominant male? I have a special requirement, male red point siamese cat (neutered) and I know it can be very hard.
Thanks for the info,
SF

due to the fact that i just found out tht he had a confirmed heart murmur and throat polyps, from his brief previous owners (the reason why he ws returned to me). he is not on any medication. he will probably need medication and i think that the polyps will need removal if they are bothering him. i have no idea of vet costs. he is a great cat, i just do not have time for him. he is very affectionate and is great with all animals.
he does need a home asap and i am open to offers.
let me know if you are still interested

Hello,
I have a few more questions, hope you don't mind

Are you a breeder (just curious)? How many homes has he had? How many animals do you have currently (I have three cats currently - 2 girls and 1 boy *all altered and spoiled
), I just want to make sure he'd be ok with three other cats. Is he up to date on all his vaccines? Are you located in the T area? I am going to give my vet a call and get more info on costs because I would hate to see him suffer because I can't afford treatment. Finally my last question - how much money are you looking for him?
Thanks!
SF

Lady
no i am not a breeder. i have one domestic cat. he has one owner before me (i got him at 9mos.) then he had new owners for a month (from june to july). they returned him to me because of his health issues that i did not know about. i have a very busy schedule and cannot give him the time and attention that he needs and deserves. he is a wonderful little handsome guy. he is great with others cats, however may need a little time to adjust. he is not up to date with his shots. i am in S. as for money, i am open to offers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you think of this? Something does not seem to add up about this poor little kitty (he has had three homes!?). Why is everyone so quick to give up a Sphynx kitty? I can understand the health issues but it appears his first owners got rid of him too!? I am just worried there is more going on that I am not being told about - Tell me what you think! Also, have any of you adopted a little one with multiple owners? That really breaks my heart to hear that

Thanks,

SF

I think that poor kitty is in desperate need of a loving home.

If you are aware of the special needs of a sphynx (even a healthy one) and are willing to take on the additional special needs of this one in particular you would be doing him a great service in helping him.

I'm not surprised that he has had 3 homes if he has health issues. There are people who consider pets to be objects that are to be desposed of if they become inconvenient. Those of us who consider our pets to be family members can't understand this but believe me the other type of pet owner is out there.

I would say there are certainly risks with this adoption. Only you can decide how much risk you are willing to accept.

Good luck!

I'm a bit suspicios but the poor kitty has had a rough time. Seems no one wants him because of medical problems (be interesting to find out WHO he's really out of!).

If you feel you can provide him a good loving home (permanently) and deal with any upcoming problems then I'd adopt him. Find out from your vet how much the pylop removal would cost. And at 9 months old, there is no reason for him NOT to be up to date on shots - he would be due in a few months for the first year, but I'm wondering if the cat has any shots?

Depending on the cost of medical issues, up to you how much to offer, but I certainly would not offer a lot and tell her "it will cost $ to have surgery/shots, so I'll offer you $" and see what she says.

That many homes already, poor kitty just needs someone to finally keep him forever.

I think that the cat needs a good loving home because the woman who has him sure isn't providing it. I'm suspicious of the money part from her because she seems to value that before getting him into a good home. I hope that he does get the love and attention that he needs.

Does sound like the poor baby needs a good home
...would you be willing (and do you think she would agree) to take him to a vet checkup (at your expense) to get an idea of how bad his health really is?

Then you have a third party opinion to base the $$ negotiation on and you'll have a better idea of what you're getting into.

Hi I have 8 sphynx. They are wonderful cats. I would be worried about the heart murrmer. Sphynx cats are known to have HCM. I have one now with HCM and it is expensive for his medical treatment. He has to have a heart scan every 6 months to see if it is progressing and the scans are expensive. With the kitty you are looking to adopt it may just be a heart murmmer but I would want the cat scanned for HCM. Also I lost a sphynx to HCM a few months ago and he was not even two years old. The kitty you are looking at to adopt does need a loveing home. But it could get very expensive.

That poor kitty. I would say if you can handle the expense, go for it.
