John Couey sentenced to death

I'm listening to the sentencing right now.

For callously murdering Jessica Lunsford, he was sentenced to death. For each of the additional charges he was sentenced to life in prison (I believe 3 life sentences).

Any death sentence is automatically reviewed by the Florida Supreme Court.

I have to say - the heinousness of this crime against a 9 year old girl (sexually assaulting her and then burying her alive) definitely warrants the death sentence. If he can do that to that beautiful little girl, he deserves to die IMO.

I am glad he committed his crime in a death penalty state

Except that it's a darned shame that this crime occured AT ALL.

I hope they don't take too long to fry him.

His filthy family should serve some time for covering for him while she was still ALIVE. This was such an awful, terrible case. What that girl endured will forever haunt her father.

She is at peace now, though, and singing with the angels, but her poor family.

So I'm anti-death penality. Yet, I have to say I won't be upset if this guy gets the chair.

I'm with you there. Some people are just too evil.

I am not familiar with the case, but from what Heidi said, I do not want to look into it further. He buried a 9 year old girl ALIVE!?!?!

Anyone seen the movie "The Green Mile"? I hope the same happens to him!

Oh, you missed the Lunsford case. Run her name through Google, and you'll find out more than you need.

This man is evil.

Everytime I see little Jessica's Father it just breaks my heart.
The sweet little girl sure was loved by her Daddy.

I too am anti death penality, but given what this idiot did and then tried to claim he was retarted so he wouldn't get death...In his case I'll make an exception.

I watched part of this trial on "Court TV"...he sat there with a coloring book and crayons coloring away all during the trial...trying to make everyone think he was retarded and didn't know what he'd done was wrong.

Not only did he murder an innocent little girl, he insulted every person in the world who sufferes from Mental Retardation.

I hope enjoys hell!

His crime and what he did is why the death penalty is still in existence IMO....

Personally I think it's TOO good for him...he should suffer like she did

And I hope they don't wait too long to kill him

May that sweet girl RIP now

Yep. Bag him up and bury him. Or if they can't do that, just let him loose in the regular prision population. Worked for Dahlmer.

Pretty much summed it up.

We were just talking about this at dinner. I don't think the death penalty is best serving our justice system, but when I heard the judge describing what this man had done... I started crying.

I can't imagine anyone I could have less sympathy for.

I guess if it were my child I may feel differently, you can never tell unless you're in that position, but I'm one of those "why do we kill people to show people that killing people is wrong?" kind of people.

I don't think we have a right to take anyone's life, despite their crimes. Punish them according to the laws of our society, yes, but only God has authority to take a life.

It's times like this that i wish we brought back the death penalty.

I hope his deaths a slow one

I was anti death penalty until I had my son.

I hope this guy frys painfully.

I think we should bury him alive in two plastic bags - Then maybe he'll understand what he did

But I'm a firm believer that once he stands before God, he'll REALLY understand what pain is

I met Jessica's father once when I went to visit my cousin. They're about 5 houses away and my cousin had worked with him.

All I can say about Couey being sentenced to death is

I found him as being very nice. But of course I only talked to him for about 15 mins while him and my cousin talked about work

I was glad to hear about this good news...too bad it's going to take so long.
It will take between ten and twenty years won't it?
Unfortunately it will, and our tax dollars will fund his appeals and pay his room and board until justice is served.
