As some of you may know, my b/f & I feed quite a few strays that roam the neighborhood, and apparently who don't have a home to call their own. One of the strays, who I became attached to and who I had planned on "adopting", has not been seen now for about two weeks. I'm thinking she may have felt "threatened" and left, b/c of one of the mommy cats who brought her kittens onto the porch where we feed them, and who, it seems, have "taken over" the kitty domain. Kokomo (which is the name I chose for her) apparently didn't like the situation very much, so we set up a spot for her on the back porch which she seemed to be content with - that is, till the mommy cat & her kittens discovered THAT area too, and tried taking over the back porch, too.

I don't know if Kokomo just decided to leave b/c she felt threatened, or maybe (and I'm sure hoping it's not the case
) something bad may have happened to her.
I really wanted to take her into our home, but was hesitating on doing so until we had saved up enough money to take her to the vet to make sure she was healthy & disease-free: this is, of course, a major concern, b/c of Winchester & Geronimo's FIP. We didn't want to take anymore chances and possibly bring another infected cat into the home until we knew it was safe. And we also have been struggling financially: we're still paying off the vet bill for Winchester & Geronimo. The vet will allow us to make payments, but even then, those payments are a big chunk out of an already limited income. We've already robbed Peter to pay Paul, so to speak, just to keep our five indoor cats healthy - not to mention the fact that feeding all those extra kittens adds up, too.
We don't mind, but ya gotta draw the line somewhere, ya know?
And also, Geronimo hasn't been neutered yet, and y'all know what would have happened THEN if Kokomo was brought into the home...

In any case, I haven't seen Kokomo now for about 2 weeks, and I'm really getting worried.
I go out and call for her several times a day, but there's no response. She's been known to "disapper" for a few days at a time, but never for this long.

Have any of you ever had a cat who disappeared for that long and then came back? Is that normal when they feel threatened?? Do you think she'll come back??

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

One can never tell with strays but Kokomo may come back and I suspect she'll either be very pregnant or come with her own kittens. Please contact your nearest animal shelter or ACA to have the strays fixed. These organizations usually do the surgery for free.

I apologize for not responding sooner to your reply, yayi.
I did have a response typed out for you a few days ago, but unfortunately, I lost it all when my ISP cut me off! My ISP sucks, but unfortunately, I live in an area where there isn't another one to choose from. It makes me so mad when that happens!

Anyways, in regards to Kokomo being pregnant and off somewhere having her kittens, the thought had crossed my mind also, but I still don't understand why she hasn't been around to eat.
She obviously has to eat, and I doubt very much that anyone else around here has been feeding her, or took her in.
So, I fear, the worst has happened.
There still hasn't been any sign that she's been around
I'm trying to remain positive and keep hoping she'll come back "home", but things are looking grim. I really miss her.

Regarding taking the other strays in to the nearest animal shelter to get them "fixed", the one that's in this area I wouldn't take ANY animal to.
They were shut down for animal abuse,
and as far as I know, it's the only one in the area. But I used to work w/ someone who mentioned such a place in Houston, which is about 100 miles from where I live, and my b/f who still works there, is gonna ask her about it. And if it's at all possible, we'll try to round up the momma cat & her kittens, and take them in. We have to do something, b/c the momma cat is now pregnant again! It can't go on like this..

Thanks for your suggestion, and your response.
It is greatly appreciated!
