Once, for her birthday, my mom got some bailey's irish cream cheese cake. I can't describe it in words so I'll use smilies.

I get laughed at quite often I always have when I would go and order my favorite pie when I would hang out with my friends back in the day when we would hang out at a local "coffee place" that also is a well known pie place as well.

As my favorite Pie is Custard Pie

also known there as "Old Lady Pie"
... seeing as I'm not an old lady & I love the pie & they found it revolting... they'd make fun.

I LOVE it

I have never heard of peppermint cheesecake. Sounds yummy! I might have to find a recipe this winter and make some!

Over the river and through the woods...
Ok, someone has to send me a receipe for a savory pie. DH loves those little frozen pot pies, but I've never thought of trying to make one from scratch, and wouldn't know how to begin. If anyone has a good receipe, pm me and I'll send you my email.

Peppermint Cheesecake
2 C. Oreo cookie crumbs, rolled fine
3 (8-oz.) pkgs. cream cheese, softened
1 C. sugar
3 eggs
3/4 t. vanilla
1 t. peppermint extract
2 drops green food coloring
1 pint sour cream
3 T. sugar
1/2 t. vanilla

Crush whole Oreos, including frosting centers, to make 2 cups of fine crumbs. Press evenly into the bottom and sides of a 10-in. springform pan.

Whip cream cheese in a mixer bowl; gradually add sugar; then add eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla, peppermint extract and green food coloring. Pour filling into crust.

Bake 40 min. at 350º F.

Whip sour cream; add sugar and vanilla. Spread on top of cheesecake and return to oven. Bake for 10 more min. Cool before removing sides from springform pan. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Serves 10 to 12.

OK...I have to brag just a little bit here. My grandmother was raised in an Amish community and was a prize-winning pie baker in Iowa. She taught me how to make pies. I make GREAT pies. My favorite pies tend to be my own, because, of course, I make them to my taste. (I tend to lean toward Carol's preferences...I don't like fruit pies to be overly sweet.) My very favorite is maple pecan pie (if I can brag a bit more, I make the BEST pecan pie) and crumb-topped apple pie.

My grandmother's recipe for apple pie. I tried to make a pie as good for years, and mostly blamed my crust for not being as good. Then, last year, we found the same apple she always used (she had two of this variety of apple trees up in the upper pasture), Northern Spy and tah dah! I finally had a pie that tasted like hers (still isn't quite as good, maybe 95% there
)

Favorite cake...hmm...I have 3. Florentine Bakery of Utica - their cafe cake, a good white cake with custard in the middle (not vanilla pastry cream, real custard), and Paula Dean's Is it really better than sex cake
