My cat, Butch, has not been active since I brought my dog home. My other 3 cats are fine with the dog, but Butch stays under my parents bed, or hides in a corner all day long. This is not like him. Although he is over weight, he's usually pretty active, but now he won't even eat. He's loosing a lot of weight and cries every time someone tries to carry him away from his corner. The only time he'll come out is when the dog is put away in a bedroom, but thats not fair to the dog either. We tried introducing the two slowly, but it's not working, he just cries the whole time. What do I do?

Butch is scared of the dog. Keep the dog away until Butch gets over his fear. There is a good chance though that it may never happen. For Butch's health and well being you may have to find the dog another home.

How long ago did you bring the dog home?
Did you do the slow introduction?

My son brought home a puppy that was found on the road next to a cemetary. That was the end of May. He has done a very slow introduction to his cat - who was rescued from the apt complex parking lot. The cat is slowly getting comfortable around the pup. Captain has climbed in the puppy's crate when the pup was outside. She often sleeps on top of the crate when the pup is in the crate. And I saw Captain walk up to the crate and bop Scally on nose - for no reason.

The puppy is going to obedience classes, which is helping her behavior. When the cat and the pup are in the same room, the pup is on a leash and under control.
We figure that Captain was terrorized by dogs during her lost period, so the plan has always been to go slow and be patient.
