My doc told me to lay off the sprite because I'm gaining weight but I can't help myself. If I don't have a pop I feel like I'll go nuts. Sprite is caffine free so it has to be the sugar. How am I ever going to control myself?

I ended up cutting out a lot of caffeinated sodas (which eventually became most sodas) and tea from my diet for health issues - now I find that I'm more likely to grab a bottle of water than a soda anyways.

I think the key is keep it away from you.
Don't buy it anymore when you go grocery shopping, keep it out of your house. Try to make yourself get water when you're at a restaurant. And you can give yourself a treat every once in awhile, just not all the time.

Really, just get rid of it from your house and you're much less likely to drink it.
After awhile, it just becomes second nature.

Have you thought about trading in for sparkling water? Maybe through in a lemon sparkling water? Then you get the fizz and some citrus.

If you switched the diet sprite, that will only help a little. Once you stop with soda all together then you'll begin to see weight loss.

B is an avid Diet Mt. Dew addict (its truely sick...um 5 2-liters a day on average). As a result he occassionally suffers acid reflux and omg does he belch. Pigs sound more polite...

Anyhoooo...good luck. Just find something else to drink, mainly water. If you switch to juice that normally has just as much sugar.

I was going to suggest lemon and or lime in water, but sparkling water is a great idea!

Good Lord!! 5 2-liters a day???? First question...can he sleep at night? Second question...does he ever get out of the bathroom? Just thinking about that makes me want to go!

Holy moses! How are his teeth? My dentist would send me to jail if he found out thats how much soda I was consuming.

I don't drink soda ever. I used to, but I quit a long time ago and haven't looked back. The stuff is terrible for your stomach, and teeth.

I used to drink a lot of soda... would buy a case of a particular one and it would be gone within 10 days, usually less. now, the only time i drink it is when I'm doing my occasional drive-thru and get one... I don't buy it in the stores... one possibility is trying one of the natural sodas... Hansens is one that I see in regular stores,

I will occasionally get a four-pack of IZZE, which is marketed as natural soda, but is sparkling water with more fruit juice than some of the flavored sparkling waters... I hate those... I taste the carbonation. I don't buy IZZE every time, but I get it maybe once a month...

Other than that, I drink OJ in the morning, occasional coffee (my weakness), and lots of water. If it's flavor you're looking for, try the flavored NON-carbonated waters... I gave up buying bottles of Propel, and now some of their flavors come in single-serve packets at the store... I buy those and get a case of water at Costco for 4 bucks.

I occasionally get lemonade or limeade (not the concentrate ones... blech) and last time I got grape juice... just had some with dinner... yummm!

I drink sparkling water/seltzer water every day. If I want a change I will drink half sparkling water/half juice. I like the carbonation!!

You're just going to have to suck it up and make yourself resist!

I quit drinking ALL soft drinks cold turkey over 9 years ago. At the time i was training for a lot of long distance running- and there was just no benifit to me drinking them. I do not regret that i quit drinking the junk at all!!! Your body will thank you!
Did you know that most people who drink soda everyday can easily put on 10-15lbs a year if they don't keep it in check? Not only will you loose weight if you stop drinking soft drinks- you'll have more energy too. The first two weeks are the hardest...i was a grouch to anyone and everyone....but after that inital two weeks...it gets better! Much better! It takes about a month to really break the habit though.....- and yes it is a habit/addiction- i swear i had the worst addiction to Dr. Pepper ever!!!!! After that it's smooth sailing pretty much so long as you have enough self control to resist. There is NOTHING in soft drinks that are good for you- they're really bad for your body- so you'd defiitely be doing yourself a favor by not drinking them
Stay strong! You can soo do this!

I think one of the keys is to figure out what's triggering you to want the Sprite...is it with a meal? at a particular time of day? when you're with certain people? stress?

When I quit smoking, one of the most valuable things I did was to identify what the patterns were that made me think "time to smoke". Making subtle changes to some of those other habits (like my morning coffee and croissant) made it easier to not have the ciggy.

Of course a certain amount of this is will power. Don't buy the stuff, don't go where they're selling it if you can help it.
Now I'm working on this method to curb emotional eating

If you don't like plain water, why not try Crystal Light. It's not carbonated but it's very good, and it's sugar free.

I also advise kicking the soft drink addiction. Occasionally is ok, but when it's the only thing you drink it has health risks from increased risk of esophageal cancer, to gastric reflux and not to mention the damage to your teeth from the acid. Then there is the high sugar content in regular soft drinks that can increase your risks of diabetes not to mention the empty calories that lead to weight gain.

Your body has become addicted to the sugar and you will feel symptomatic when weaning yourself off of the drinks.

I stopped drinking sodas a few years ago, and it didn't take long for me to not be able to stand them. I have one very occasionally now, and it doesn't seem like a treat, it usually just tastes too sugary and yucky. I recently found Jones sodas, and the sugar free ones are really pretty good. The ones that have sugar, have real cane sugar, instead of high fructose corn syrup.

When you want some sprite, you need to do something else. Just think of it like training out an unwanted behavior in an animal (or human
): probably the simplest way to avoid the behavior is to train an incompatible behavior. So you need to be doing something that does not enable you to be thinking about drinking sprite.

Now it's up to you to think about something! Maybe having a play session with Popsie?

Hello! We used to drink pop like there was no tomorrow. We quit drinking it on a daily basis and have switched to Kool-Aid. Kool-Aid isn't just for kids! We have lost weight just by decreasing our pop intake and we feel better too

There are many drinks that could replace pop...Kool-Aid, Crystal Light, Country Time Lemonade, V8 Drinks, Carbonated Water, Fruit Juices...there must be something at the store that will be tasty!

Keep up the good
work!

The only problem with Koolaid is there's still sugar (or one of it's nasty substitutes) ... and usually lots of it.

Seriously, if you need some sort of flavor, try one of hte natural sodas (I know a diabetic who drinks Hansens, so it has to be acceptable) or water with Crystal Light or Propel pouches... I prefer the Propel... to me the CL ones have NO taste... they just make the water look pretty!
