My kitty has been drinking lots and lots of water. More than normal I think. He had been sick with a cold and tapeworms. He is currently on antibiotics. He also has diarriea which he had before the meds. He is gassy and farts "wet farts".

The vet tested for other parasite and found nothing. He is on a prescription diet of high protien, low carbs.

Should I be worried? He is only 5 months old and I just adopted him last Wednesday.

Poor Rupert, it sounds as though he's having a hard time. Feel better soon vibes to him.

The antibiotics may actually make the diarrhea worse. Did the vet suggest anything for it? Pumpkin, the plain kind with no seasonings, sometimes helps if he's willing to eat it. Drinking water is actually good at this point because the diarrhea is so dehydrating. You may want to ask the vet if you should be concerned because excessive thirst is a symptom of a number of illnesses.

Is his RX diet wet or dry food? Is he eating well?

I hope your little guy is feeling better soon.

It is dry food and he is eating very well. Other than his poo issue, he is doing great. Playful and loving and curious. I'm glad he is not a picky eater.....so far he has eaten everything I put in front of him. This morning, I put the special diet in all of the food bowls so that he doesn't eat the other food that may be contributing to the diarreah. My other cats will have to eat the food too.

Antibiotics can cause loose stools or diarrhea. A probiotic supplement might help.

I don't know what probotics are. I got Rupert from a rescue organization. He was thrown out by his former owner and then rescued. He has been to the vet and was tested (and treated) for worms. Not sure what coccidia is or if he was tested for that.
