I have noticed that my beloved Petunia will drag whatever she can get into her mouth around my house as she cries horribly whenever I leave the room or leave the house. Im wondering what this means because Barkley does not do this and Petunia will only resort to this behavior when we are away from each other.

I dont think it's a troublesome behavior but sometimes it stinks having to go around the house and put back all the things that she has dragged about. Does anyone else have a cat that does this? And if so what do you think she might be expressing in her own way by doing this?

I am sorry I am laughing but you described Oreo. She does this same thing. I just take it that it is the hunter in her. She yowls her "war cry" and will not be quiet until I say, "Good girl, Oreo" and she comes to me and drops the the "kill" by me and wants lots of praise. She also does this when I am gone cause I will find a pile of toys in the family room or down the hallway. Sorry but I think this is just a natural thing in their way of thanking us for taking care of them. I don't think there is anything that can be done to stop it. I just have to giggle, shake my head and then send my kids around to pick the toys up

Sometime ago I read that cats may look upon their humans as their kittens. So when we leave, they tend to behave like all moms who misplaced their children. None of my cats will drag things but a few will cry out if I am gone or paw at all the doors in the house looking for me.
Hope I helped.

I too have read that yayi so you may be right. Oreo, as you described her behavior performs in the exact way as my Petunia. Just this morning she was dragging Barkley's cat bed around the house making as you put it a "war cry". When I first heard that sound I didnt know what was wrong with her because she is the first female cat I have ever adopted. Is it just a female instinctive thing? Barkley always looks at her like she's crazy when she starts! As soon as I enter the bathroom she will come to the door and ferociously scratch at the door like she's looking for me. She can be very loud though at times, especially in the morning when Im the only one up in the house preparing to go to work.

Fluffy is my SO's little princess, and she adores him. When he leaves the house, she will sit on the end of the couch and look like her little world has fallen apart. It is soo sad.

I have wondered if this behavior is just a female thing cause all my females have done this. My first beloved baby, Princess, did this...usually with socks. Now Oreo does it and Snickers has just started doing it. No male cat I have owned has ever done this.

Little kitty wont drag random things around the house but she will take her little rabbit fur mice and carry them around like dogs do with their toys. If she is in one room playing with them, and I leave she will pick it up follw me where ever I go and get comfy playing with them there. She hates not knowing where I am, and 90 percent of the time, she is no less that 15 feet away from me. . .

Ahhhhh.....let me guess.....no children, right?

Seriously, if this is the only problem you ever have, you'll consider yourself fortunate. And after many years of love and companionship, when she's gone, you're going to miss having to pick up all the things she's dragged about.

Don't get me wrong here, Im not complaining about it, I was just curious as to why she does this particular behavior. Petunia is the first female cat Ive ever had the pleasure of sharing my house with, she is a wonderful girl! The only times I hate picking up all the stuff is when I come home from working a long day and Im dog tired. Other than that Im becoming more and more accustomed to it now that I have a better understanding as to what it might mean.
