Hi,

I am really worried, because I noticed 2 hours ago that my cat had a problem with her right eye. She won't open it. At first, I tought it was just stuck because she hadn't been awake for long, but she did open it a few times. She just can't seem to open it normally (it stays half closed). It's a little red in the bottom. She tried a couple of times to rub her eye, but now she just seems to leave it close all the time. Again, it's just been 2 hours, should I wait to see if it goes away or bring her immediatly to the vet? Anything I can do while waiting? Would human eye drops (the ones used for contacts lenses) be dangerous for cats?

Thanks for any advice,

Marilou

I think you should take her to the vet. It is not normal for a cat to have one eye closed for any length of time. She could have a viral infection or a scratch, or something could be wrong with her "extra eyelid".

This is a situation where waiting is not likely to improve things. Let us know how it all works out!

Don't whatever you do use any human medication on your cat

We don't have any vets here, so the best thing would be to take her to one in your area incase she's in pain with it

Let us know how it goes though?.

Thanks everyone! I was too worried, so I didn't wait for any reply and I brought her to the vet. Everything should be fine, she's on antibiotics now (a little ulcer in her eye was the cause of all this, maybe from playing with her sister or from sticking something in her eye). We will see the vet monday to make sure everything is all right.

Thanks again for your help and advice,

Marilou
