Is my kitten a turkish van????

Hi everyone,
I have just rescued a 10-12 week old ginger and white kitten, and he looks like he could be a turkish van.He has ginger ears and top of his head and a ginger tail and a very silky textured coat.He also has amber eyes.
Are there any turkish van experts out there who could advise me.

The pattern you describe is called 'van pattern' and although it is a distinguishing feature of Turkish Van cats (hence the pattern is named after them), it can occur in other pure breeds where bicolour patterns are allowed, and also in cats with no particular breed, so your cat being that colour and pattern does not necessarily mean that it is Turkish Van.

It's just a particular form of white spotting (called high-grade white spotting, while low-grade white spotting results in a coloured cat with white mittens or a tuxedo cat) and is not restricted to that particular breed, although I believe it is not quite as common (and IMO prettier!) than low-grade white spotting.
