I live in the No. Va area near DC.
Fairfax County shelter is CLOSED for intake. No
new cats will be taken for 1 week. They will
probably be PTSing ALOT of cats.

Please, if you have room and space or can squeeze
or 2 more in, try and take a cat!

There are wonderful adults there - its just that
this year was terrible for kittens (too many everywhere
)

Please SPAY and NEUTER your animals, and support
the low cost SPAY NEUTERS!!

Thanks to Katie TNR is going strong ... but we need MORE
in NoVa!!!

so Martini is at The AAWL and fighting to live. Pray for him.
There is a virulent strain of Calci virus that came in with 2
adult cats.

They are in quarantine process right now
at the shelter until this coming Thursday.

No cats in or out.

Martini's doing okay so far - he's still alive, and hasn't yet shown signs of
disease ... pray for him.

If he makes it, I will do my utmost to get him out, to
my home or a temporary shelter till we can place him in a full time home.

He is a lovely boy. Found as if sent from heaven - with gummy eye
and sneezes, but definitely with a will to live.

Very very much a jumper and talker. V. active, bold
and not that afraid. A good purrrsonality.

A real good looking boy who will
make a GREAT companion animal for someone.

I hope he gets the chance. However after
talking to the shelter I feel better about placing him
in the shelter, since it was not he who brough the
disease in.

AAWL's animals are ALL spay/neutered BEFORE
going up for adoption - NO if and or buts.
And they get basic medical before going out to a home.

So, as far as shelter's go, they aren't the worst around.

And he would at least get a chance at home there - rather
than being abandoned out doors. I just have too many
with my feral colony reproducing - I MUST get them
taken care of first.

I have rescued 17 cats and kittens from my colony
gotten to rescues and/or fixed and released or placed and
but still have 15 young 2/6 month age kittens
and 3 breeding queens. I MUST place them as priority.

If TNR knows of any places to a) get traps and b) do
low cost spay neuter in "bulk" ... please let me know!!

I need at least 4 traps and want to trap and fix
by Mid September...through October...

Hey Opilot...good news is coming...Alley Cat Allies is teaming up with the Washington Humane Society to open a low cost clinic that will allow a minimum of 75 spays/neuters. Unfortunately it won't be open until Oct.:

Alley Cat Allies and Washington Humane Society to Launch
Critically Needed Spay & Neuter Center
Washington, DC – Alley Cat Allies and Washington Humane Society have formed a
partnership to launch the regionâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s first low-cost spay/neuter center to serve the entire DC
metropolitan area.
The new facility – National Capital Area Spay & Neuter Center – will be able to provide
the sterilization services for at least 75 animals a day.
The spay/neuter center will play a crucial role in sterilizing and therefore controlling the
reproduction of stray and feral cats through Trap-Neuter-Return, according to Becky
Robinson, president of Alley Cat Allies. To improve their lives, stray and feral cats will
be safely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and eartipped and then healthy cats
will be returned to their outdoor homes.
“Alley Cat Allies is proud to be a founding partner of the new center because of its strong
commitment to saving animalsâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji] lives,†Robinson said. “We know the clinic will provide
services that area residents can afford and for area animal shelters with veterinary
services for animals before they are adopted. It is not only needed but extremely
welcome in an area with few low-cost sterilization options.â€
The clinic, whose official opening is currently scheduled for October, will be located on
Capitol Hill at 1001 L Street, SE.
