Dry food formula change causing problems - need a new dry food for sensitive cats.

We've been feeding our cat with the sensitive stomach and cats with sensitive skin Wellness successfully for some time now - a combination of mostly grain-free canned meals, and some Super 5 mix dry free-fed. On that diet, Felixia stopped vomiting, Mr. Underfoot stopped scratching and losing hair on his face & ears, and Sylvestra stopped scratching and losing hair on her ears.

Unfortunately, the company has reformulated their dry Super 5 mix food (it's been renamed Complete Health Chicken & Rice), and since starting a bag of the new formula, the vomiting and itching/hair loss problems have reappeared. I've just contacted the manufacturer to try to find out exactly which ingredients have changed. I'm guessing for now, but I believe barley and tomato pomace have been added to the new formula and were not in the old one. Until I hear back from them I won't know for sure (I'm kicking myself for not keeping the label from the old bag).

For now, I'm feeding canned only (the canned formulas have remained the same & my cats do great on them), but I really need a good dry food as a supplement for occasional times when I need to leave the house for the whole day or a bit longer. I want our little old lady (Felixia, who's 19 1/2 now) to always have access to food to keep her weight up.

Can anyone recommend a good dry food that is less likely to cause vomiting and itching in sensitive cats, and that isn't too high in phosphorous? I'm in the US and have access to feed stores, Pet Supplies Plus, Pet's Barn, Petsmart, Petco, a couple of small privately run pet shops, and of course vet clinics.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is Wellness Core ok for senior cats? I can get that at the little pet supply shop that's close to home, too, so that would be very convenient if it will work.

I couln't find orijen or sensible choice, but they did have solid gold. Natural Choice Senior makes Felixia vomit, unfortunately (unless they've changed the formula again & removed the soy ingredient).

Any opinions on Innova EVO, Eagle Pack Holistic Select Chicken, Eagle Pack Holistic Select Duck & Oatmeal, Felidae, or California Natural?

Natural choice SENIOR not the indoor has no soy.. look for the SOLID purple bag

Love cal natural will have to revisit the %s

EVO I dont recommend for seniors ... and Core likely is too high ( dogs are different)

Eagle pack drys are not my fav

Felidea chicken and rice is a great one

I mis read and thought the kitty was 9 not 19 ... the grain free are likely too much ....

Other than Soy any sensitivitys??

Another TUX fan!!

One of my cat eats Wellness dry, I think. I threw away the package because I keep the food in plastic. All the food that you mention in your last sentence is good!

My older TUX does not like dry anymore, so lately I have been adding some water to it and mix it with her Welness wet.

She probably does not like dry anymore because stupid and un-informed me used to feed her garbage (WM brand or similar) for the first 9 years of her life.

Good for you, fellow TUX cat lover for looking out for your cats and feeding them the BEST.

Thanks for the feedback, sharky! I really appreciate your taking the time to learn about nutrition & share the information w/us.

Soy is the only known sensitivity (the only reason I know for sure soy is an issue is that it was the only ingredient change in a food that used to work but then started causing problems for Felixia). Since there isn't any soy in the Wellness Complete Care, there must be another ingredient that's a problem. I'm hoping to hear back from customer service soon to find out exactly which ingredients are new to the food.

ddcats, pleased to meet another Tux lover!

I've learned a lot about food here!

Thanks to Sharky
and this site, my cats now are not eating garbage anymore. Since the switch to Welness, their fur is shiny and Mittens' whiskers are stronger looking, before her whiskers were sparse. And she has a bald condition underneath her belly from the garbage food that is there for life. I did not know it then, I thought it was from her being stressed out from her dog dying.

Tuxedokitties, I have two tux kitties not by choice, it just happened that way. I have always had stray or adopted cats, they are the best.
