Well... a lot of scam artists will pick any random number and then try to get you to tell them who they are. I ask "Who is this?" and won't tell them my name. One guy even tried to get my address once in middle school.

I haven't called the cops yet, if this lady owes so many people so much money I'm not sure I want to tick her off
It isn't the same collections agency calling over and over, it's always different ones.

The first one would not say the name of the person they were calling for, I would call back, they'd ask for my name, they'd say they didn't have any record of me, blah blah blah. Finally I got someone with half a brain who looked it up by my phone number, then got his manager who asked me a bunch of questions, then said they wouldn't call again, and they haven't.

The first number led to a voicemail that was clearly not my Mike, so I hung up. The second number a woman answered the phone. I said, "Hi, can I talk to Mikey?" She asks "Who is this?" She sounded very suspicious. Mike always had jealous girlfriends, so I paused a moment to think about it before saying. "Um, it's his sister." I hoped that that would relax the girl a bit. There was a moment of silence and the woman replied in a shakey and angry voice, "My husband doesn't have a sister!... CLICK!"

My Mike ended up being the third number. Doh!
OMG!! I bet there was a HUGE fight that night!!

When I was in high school, I had a friend who would always mix up my number. She was always calling this guy, and after a while he would just tell her you dialed "blah, blah, blah" instead of "blah, blah, blah". Eventually she would call him just to talk to him. That is weird. He would also sometimes call me and leave messages from people who left messages for me on his machine. I don't know about my friends sometimes!

LOL, I met 2 guys that I dated that way!

The first was when I accidently dialed the wrong number. I can't remember exactly how, but the guy I ended up dialing somehow got me to stay on the phone with him for awhile talking. He seemed "ok". Finally I told him I had to go and he invited me to call him again. A couple of days later I was bored and figured "why not", so I called him again. We talked on the phone for about 2 weeks and then met. He lived about 8 blocks from me. We ended up dating for almost 2 years, LOL

The next one was a wrong number, but not my fault. I was wanting to get some help with redecorating so I was calling up a decorating company that I found in the phone book. The lines seemed to be crossed or something because I kept getting put through to a radio station and some radio announcer guy was answering! After hearing me say "sorry, I have the wrong number" so many times he offered to help me and call the place I was trying to dial and leave my name and phone number for them to call me. I figured ok, this guy is a radio announcer and he deals with people and their names and phone numbers daily, so I gave him my first name and my phone number and he called and gave it to the decorator place and called me back to tell me that he managed to get through to them and leave my message. A few days later I got a call from him again and he asked me if they ever got back to me and if I needed him to call them again, hehe We ended up talking and finally met a week or so later and ended up dating for over a year.

Someone named Earl used to have a number close to mine, and apparently Earl was quite the ladie's man. I would get calls at all hours accusing me of having an affair with Earl and demanding that he be put on the phone. This went on for months, and these women would not be convinced that they had the wrong number. I finally started telling them that Earl had died and the services would be at this really annoying funeral home that always had people parking where they would block my driveway. I sat and watched the bedlam from my front window. Half the women in town turned up to Earl's funeral, and it was total bedlam. There was even a fist fight in the parking lot. I didn't get any more calls for Earl.

I'm not sure, but it seemed like the person I just talked to was a cop in Jacksonville FL. He's been calling for a few days too. He never said what company he was with... If it wasn't he had a lot of questions and I guess maybe I shouldn't have answered them all, but he didn't ask where I live or my last name so the red flag never went off... you know, how long have you had this number, how much do they call for her, you're sure you've never met her, why are they calling you for her, etc.

.
No, she shouldn't give out your phone number to represent her, or give it out period.
I would go to the cops, file a report, get their suggestions, that is a good idea.
Personally, until this blows over I would also refrain from answering calls you suspect might not be for you, and if you do answer them, I would not submit to questioning by anyone. This is causing you drama, over the phone, and it is not okay. Just let them know wrong number nicely, and then hang up.
I have called wrong number before and one time had really crazy people calling me at all hours (apparently my cell number and T-Bizzy's, yes that is what his name was, were similar) and leaving messages in the middle of that night that were really too much. It happens. But I think Goldenkitty has a point, I would make sure this is an accident, you might be a victim of ID theft.

Change your phone number, tell the creditors to take your number off of their call list... Call your cellphone company. Honestly changing your number is best bet... Just send everyone in your phonebook a text with your new number included. I have these issues at times (not as extreme). I was getting tons of calls for some guy named Dan (Im assuming that my current number was once his), i had to keep telling his friends that this was no longer his number (you'd think theyd get the memo but no)... Heck one day this girl was texting me non stop (after I told her this was no longer Dan's number) and she started asking me what my plans where for the weekend, how I was, where i live, etc... The boy has "different" friends I might say, luckily all the calls diminished, otherwise I was going to change my number.

A couple of years ago I used to get all these text messages and cell phone calls from this one guy. I guess he broke up with his girlfriend or something, and instead of calling/texting her phone, he kept texting and calling mine! They were always at, like, two in the morning, and he always sounded drunk (and couldn't spell worth a darn either, judging by his texts). They were messages like "C'mon Baby, call me back, I just want to talk to you for a little while!" and stuff like that.

Every time he texted or called I'd text or call him back and tell him he had the wrong number, he never got the hint.

Finally, my bf at the time called the number, talked to the guy, and said if you ever call this phone again I'm going to find you and beat the crap out of you.

The calls and texts stopped immediately

This is IDENTITY THEFT. Someone is using your information which they are using without your permission, and they are trying to pretend you are them/vice versa. File a police report as soon as possible for identity theft and start writing down when collectors or anyone calls for her, and make sure to write down who it was and their number. Don't let it go on another day without taking action! You need to protect yourself, you are being victimized here and shouldn't have to deal with it. KEEP US POSTED!

Omg this is so what we are going through. We got this phone number in July 05 when we moved here and almost everyday we get a call for a SN or her daughter AN. It is fusterating. No one believes that I am not her. We have drs offices calling and leaving messages as when her next appt is (hope she missed them) and all sorts of people. We have even gone as far as some friend of hers calling and we asked are you sure she is a good friend cuz she gave you the wrong number. Heck she had a guy calling her from NH and talking on our machine about stuff they talked about (ewww). I just get to the point I don't answer the phone and delete all messages to her. I can't find her name in any phone book around here or online. If anyone has a way to track them down please let me know. Thanks
