new cat, new house, new probems...

Hi everyone, glad to find a good community to look for some help. I've had my first cat Nebuchadnezzar ("Neby", "Nebica") since late may. She was a stray i was happy to take in. I've trained dogs for years but have no cat solution for the following: i moved out of my parents house into a place with my friends last weekend, and she insists on walking back to the old house. it's a danger i don't want her to keep attempting so any suggestions, I'll probably go into more detail in the stray section if nowhere else

How far away is the old house from the new house? I moved one time from one apartment to another that was on the other side of the apartment complex. After moving, when I let the cat out, he went back to the old apartment. What I did after I found him there was walk him back to the new place (i.e. I walked and he followed me), and then let him in there, showing him where the new place was. I didn't have any problems after that.

it's about a mile and a quarter, and most of it is heavy traffic and no sidewalks. she watches everytime we're in the car so im sure she knows the route well. the first time it took her 3 days to show up, last night it took her an hour.
