I believe I might finally have conquered the chronic diahrrea that has afflicted our brand new Ocicat kittens. The vet identified Coccidia in one stool sample and medicated them both for that but it turned out one kitten had Coccidia and the other had Giardia and I've been medicating them both twice a day now, with two different liquids to treat them both for each condition.

I still don't really blame the breeder. They are beautiful cats and she really seems to have her heart in the right place but may have lost control of her feline hygiene conditions.

The cats' stools are definitely improving but I've come to the end of the course of liquid Metronidazole for the Giardia and still have ten more days of Albon to administer for the Coccidia. There is still room for improvement. Does the timing of this surprise anyone?

I may as well have become a full-time cat paramedic. Here, for your amusement, is how much my little boy likes to take his medicine, with apologies to Amy Winehouse:

He tried to make me take my medicine but I said 'no, no, no'
Yes my poop’s been loose and I got a brown caboose, as you know know know
There ain’t no point in healing and the poop is on the ceiling
He tried to make me take my medicine so I won’t go go go

Oh, and he likes to eat flies. Does this guarantee diahrrea?

Ew. Yucky. Just make sure you are dumping/bleaching the boxes often. With foster kittens, I change the boxes daily & bleach them. I just switch to non-clumping litter.

Man, I can just imagine the smell of double + poos!

Is there a brand of bleach you recommend?

We dump poop as it appears and change the litter once a week. We have three cats and three litter boxes.

Have you contacted the breeder about this? IMO she should be aware of what was found, so she can test the rest of her cats. Coccidia is nothing to be fooling around - neither is the other. It can easily transmitted between cats/kittens.
