Are ya'all keeping up with this? It is just breaking my heart!
I just cant even imagine what those families are going through!! I just knew that by now they would have been found.

What is everyones thoughts on this? I mean, could they possibly still be alive?

I also read that 9 rescue workers were injured today.

I just feel so bad!!

Its pretty sad
I hope they're ok. And for the family's sake I hope that crap that happened last time in West Virginia doesn't happen again. How do you get the dead v. alive count backwards and announce it to a group of hopeful family members?!?! So dumb.

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
They had another seismic 'bump' this evening (been watching CNN all evening) and a section that was previously cleared caved in, injuring 9 workers. 6 were taken to the nearest hospital by ambulance and three life-flighted to a top of the line trauma center in Provo. One of the 6 at the nearby hospital died and now one in Provo has died. At least one had major head trauma... neither hospital is releasing details on the injuries or names. One of the injured has been sent home... his injuries were minor enough.

Whomever you pray to, pray for all involved. They need every little bit they can get.

Looks like it's 2 rescue workers dead now too. It's so tragic! It must be awful for everyone involved. Not knowing whether the original miners are even alive, and then losing the very people helping to rescue the unknown.

By the sounds of what the Utah Govenor just said in a breaking news, it sounds like they are going to abandon the search. He said something that they aren't going to risk anymore losses and that the search is stopped until the mining company can absolutely guaranty that it is safe to do so and that there won't be any more cave ins etc.

They said something about 3 dead and 6 hurt.

He was quite vague really, but the tone of his statement sounded like it was going to be abandoned.

Unfortunately mining has always been a highly risky job and people go into it knowning the risks, hoping that something like this won't ever happen to them, but willing to accept the risks anyway.

Personally I don't think the original trapped miners are still alive. It's been too long. Whether they recover the bodies or not, I don't know. But I seriously doubt that they will risk lives to recover the dead. That mine may end up being a tomb.

My prayers are with the families and friends of those who died or were hurt.

I know, I keep praying for the miners and the familys no matter what happens. IMO it will be a miracle if those miners are still alive at this point.

Yes indeed it would be a miracle.
They are haulting the search though, so I wonder what they plan to do?

What I heard on CNN last night was that there have been times in years past where they just left them... entombed in the mine section... but the guy from the MIne Safety commission said it may take them a couple months to get to these guys, but they would really like to retrieve the bodies, at least... give the families some closure.

I highly doubt they're still alive... yes, the noise a couple days ago sounded 'hopeful' but even with a few food and water rations, six men can only survive so long...

They may keep digging, but take it slower... make sure each section is as secure as possible... they have to reopen the mine eventually... the owner would be losing a ton of money (not to mention workers out of a job) if they closed it permanently. They'll just have to go slower.

I heard. Its very sad, and I'm glad resue efforts are at least halted for now until a better plan is made. There has been no signs of survivors. I understand wanting to get the bodies out, but to me, retrieving them isn't worth possibly losing more human life.

In high school, a friend a year younger than me died trying to retrieve an ore when the undertoe got him while fishing with two of his buddies on a lake. A man with 3 kids died trying to retrieve the body. That made everyone feel worse.

Last night at the gym I saw that they had lowered a camera, and they picked up noises; a guy and I were talking about ' wouldnt that be amazing if they found the miners and they were rescued?'
Oh Man! I didn't hear the lastest.
So, there was another tremor and rescuers were killed??

I'm keeping the families of those who were lost in this horrible tragedy in my thoughts and prayers.

I saw an interview with the mayor of the town this morning, he said the search will continue but they will use another method that will be less risky to the resuers.

That is such a sad update on the rescue workers who lost their lives trying to find the lost miners
My heart goes out to all the families involved. I do hope by some miracle at least some of them miners are found alive.

Yes I heard last night about the rescue workers being injured. If the minors have any kind of oxygen getting to them, they can still be alive, people have gone longer than that without food. I keep checking CNN to find out the latest but this is all I have heard so far as you have.

The owner of the mine said there's food and water... whether each miner carries it on them (doubtful... as that's a lot to haul around while you're doing heavy labor) or there's emergency rations kept in every section... he 'says' they could stay alive indefinitely... I don't know about that, but providing they have water, they can stay alive this long and longer... I think the rule is 3 minutes w/o sufficient oxygen, 3 days w/o water, and 3 weeks w/o food. So, they could still be alive... they need to make some sort of contact... hopefully the fourth hole will be close enough...

They have oxygen... the mine is well ventilated, not to mention the holes being drilled... as long as they're in the right section... who knows...

I'll probably be glued to CNN yet again this evening...

I do hope and pray they are alive and can hold out for rescue... but I also have a part of me that doubts it... I teeter on the edge.

Has anyone heard an update on this? It's just breaking my heart. The last thing I heard was that there was a cave-in and three people doing rescue were killed.

They were talking on the news last night after the second cave about how people had to give up on miners in the past because they couldn't reach them. Do you think they will have to do that here with all of the seismic activity? And who knows now if the new seismic bumps haven't killed the trapped men already?

You know, there's just no way of knowing if they're alive or not.
I think that's the question that the people in charge of the rescue are going to have to weigh. They *could* be alive, but then again, what's the possibility of that compared to the possibility of the rescue workers dying to retrieve what may actually be the bodies of the trapped miners, instead of finding them alive. That's the horrifying part, (beyond the whole ordeal in general).. if you abandon the rescue and they're alive, you're sentencing them to death. If you continue to try to rescue them, and they're dead, then you've killed rescue workers, and possibly more than three, if they continue.
