Well thought I'd give everyone an update.

Most bizarre thing happened - yesterday kitten just gets on up and starts exploring the house. Previously he would walk a few steps to his food and then just either stay on his blanket or be cuddled and do a little bit of playing. He has never really shown much interest in his surroundings, if placed away from his blanket would just go straight back to it.

But suddenly loads of confidence - off exploring the other rooms, chewing wires, playing with leaves in the garden and all the other scary things that kittens normally do.

So thanks folks - and just goes to show that you never can tell. I still can't quite believe it - four weeks in the shelter and nothing, one week at home with some tlc and this is what happens. Of course could be a coincidence but...

So anyone thinking about helping out a potential problem case - go for it - you never know what could happen!

One last plea for ideas, I want to introduce him to kitty litter - at the moment I normally manage to get him outside to go to the loo, but I think it now looks like he will be able to do most things relatively normally. So I need to get a cat litter box that he can get into and out of - what do you guys use for your kittens?

Thanks all

Mandy and Midge

PS Used all your suggestions with the exception of the bath/hot pads - but thats only because its about 38 degrees C here at the moment and humid as you like - so need to sit in the fridge rather than heat him up! But useful for the winter.

that's great! glad to hear he's made so much progress. it's a good reminder that cats really benefit from individual attention.

i used a shallow baking pan for a litter box, it's only a couple of inches deep. to help the kittens get into it when they were small, i stacked books up like a staircase. but it didn't take long for them to learn how to jump into it.

here you can get tiny litter trays for kittens that are only about 2" deep, but the baking tray seems a good idea.
