My new kitten doesn't really like his dry food, even when he was outside and we fed them the purina he wouldn't really eat it. He eats the canned evo really good though. I give him a 1/4 cup of dry food every day and he maybe eats 1/2 of it.

Should I stop offering him the dry and just give him the canned food? He's 9 weeks old about and weighs 2.5 lbs today. I hear a lot of people say a good quality canned food is actually way better than dry so if it's going to be healthier to just give him canned than I would rather do that. It would also be easier seeing as I wouldn't have to leave his bowl of dry out all day and risk the dogs getting into it.

Should I still always leave the dry out, or can I just offer him canned and stop leaving out dry food?

He gets the evo dry food. We gave him the purina kitten chow when he was an outside stray. He wouldn't eat the purina either his brother's and sisters would eat it like there was no tomorrow but he'd just nibble here and there on it. We have bench and field holistic all life stages dry food as well but he isn't interested in it. He does eat some evo dry between canned food feedings but not much only a couple pieces at a time. My vet said he is so small so doesn't need to eat a lot of the evo and he is gaining weight so we shouldn't change anything we're doing but I didn't want to keep buying the dry food and only have it go to waste and go stale.

So when he's an adult I should just put him on an all wet diet?

It could be but he's snubbed everything so far. We tried plain purina and barely ate it, the evo he hardly touches, and we have a seperate bowl of the bench and field holistic dry food for all life stages and he looks at it like someone dumped a pile of sewage in his bowl. I guess as long as he's eating some dry it's ok, right?

I'm sure as long as he's gaining weight and the vet says he's healthy you are doing ok.
Have you tried anything besides those foods? Another idea is a lot of pet food companies will send out samples. You could contact a few companies and have them send you samples. Then you don't have to spend big bucks trying to find something he likes. My cats are pretty darn fussy about their food, so I understand not wanting to waste money.

Yup I'm getting the free samples right now. I contacted bench and field about their holistic line and asked for a free sample. I thought I'd get a little tiny bag but instead they sent out a free bag (6 lbs) of their holistic formula to us. I was amazed. I contacted eagle pack, felidae, lots of other places but most just send out coupons. I'll wait and see and pick up some other brands this weekend.
