Hi,

A little background, my now 14-15 year old cat had surgery about 3 years ago for bladder stones. About 3 months ago she started vomiting pretty frequently. I always fed dry food and gradually switched to a better brand. She did better, then started vomiting again. Usually no visible hairball. I did research and determined that wet food would be healthier (given the bladder stones). Well, she is totally addicted to kibble. I now have her switched (sort of) to quality wet food (Natural Balance, Nutro). She will eat it, but very little. She just licks it, refused to get her teeth into it. As soon as she stopped eating kibble, the vomiting went to once a week.

I'm a little concerned that she is losing some weight with the switch, but she wasn't skinny to begin with. I think she is just stubborn about switching. Should I continue with just the wet food? I'm afraid if I give her even a little kibble she will hold out until it's all she gets. I use a hairball treat a few times a week, in others' experiences, do these help?

Just checking with other people go through and wanting opionions! Thanks!!

It's important to keep her eating, even if it means giving her some dry. Some tricks people have used to switch their cats to all wet including mixing dry and wet together and gradually decreasing the dry or using the dry as a topping on the wet or smooshing a few bits of dry into the wet so they have to eat some wet to get at the dry.

One other thing that might help with the switch is to add warm water to the canned food so it's soupy. My cats prefer to just lick their wet food too, intsead of chewing. They eat better if I make a "soup" they can just lap up.
