Cat Shedding

My friend has a cat, it's the one I've posted a pic of-Topaz is sprawled on top of an VW bug. Topaz is not a long haired cat, but she is still shedding copious (i like that word!) amounts of fur. Is that normal?
My cat is shedding a few hairs here and there but Topaz's comes out by the handful.

What does Topaz eat ??? dry or wet or combo and brand??

That's the first thing I asked Linda (the owner).
She feeds Topaz the Costco brand 'Rice and Lamb' stuff, dry.

We are coming into another shedding season for winter so its typical. You might want to comb the cat 2-3 times a week for awhile rather then just use a brush.

I didn't know cats shed more than once a year, I figured when it got hot they shed.
Makes sense though, they shed before winter to get the old stuff off before the winter coat grows in?

ask what either the omega 6 fatty acid level is or linoleic acid .... if it is under 3 she likely should find a food that is over that

yes Many cats shed twice a yr others shed constantly with a major shed twice a year

My Elliott sheds all the time.
I have to comb him every single day or my carpet would be covered in white hair.
I get enough hair out of him daily to knit a hat
His hair is short, but it's very dense.
I agree about the comb instead of the brush, it's been my experiance that the comb gets down in the hair better than a brush can.
