I have the same reaction whenever I see a gerbil.

Sure. You've seen the Travelocity commercials, haven't you?

Let's see gnomes last year and y-fronts and Grannie panties the year before. I can't imagine what this year will bring.
Karen would you care to explain the Grannie panties????

I also vaguely remember nuts and pickles from last year too.

One year, someone said that they didn't want a gnome but their SS sent them one anyway. And then a gnome held up a package to a recipient in Australia (we think it was the gnome, don't know for sure). So people tend to threaten sending gnomes in their SS packages.

Same here! And I even have my friends telling me when they've seen them!
It never fails though, when I'm out and there's a gnome somewhere; I'll see it and I'm not even looking for them (it's like that with cat themed things too)!

Very good! And those Travelocity commercials have absolutely nothing to do with gnomes on TCS. Hope this helps.

Whoa, we're up to 11 pages on this one alone! SS seems to bring out a lot of posts.

Is it possible to have several different threads to keep from reading through reams of posts?
Like say, one for when a present is received, one for hints, etc.?
I'm not sure what would work, but wading through the Secret Santa threads is not for the faint-hearted.

That is what we did last year, one for sign ups, one for hints and one for received (and I think there may have been a jokey just chat about the SS one too)

I had forgotten about those, I guess keeping enthusiasm down is pretty hard to do.

Funny you should ask...I was just doing a little early shopping for ideas, and www.theanimalrescuesite.com has some really neat stuff for pretty cheap.

For instance, if you have someone who likes purple and wears tanks: https://shop.theanimalrescuesite.com...egory&index=24

Or this cute pin: https://shop.theanimalrescuesite.com...tegory&index=8

Or this spoon rest: https://shop.theanimalrescuesite.com...egory&index=23

and those are just from the first page of the All About Animals shopping page!

I really wish to find one of those someday so I can send it to Australia.

OK, I can explain the gnomes. During SS two years ago, I had a snooping santa send my recipient some questions that I wanted answered. The snooping santa, being the evil person that she is, added a few extra questions to my list just for our entertainment. One of these questions was "Do you like gnomes?" As you can see, that got quite a strong response -

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...&postcount=158

After that, the gnome phenomenon took off. The gift I sent her was very late arriving and the joke was that the gnomes got it.

I believe the "knickers" jokes originated with Susan and Susie in a Vacation thread.

The Y-fronts came about as a member mentioned that she wore these and one member suggested she could embroider gnomes on them.

The joke that year was that someone was going to get a gift of knickers, a newspaper (many people had mentioned they would love a local newspaper from their SS's area) and a card. Someone sent me all three for fun.

I love that website!!!
Right now they have $1 shipping. And every time you order anything, bowls of food are donated to animals in shelters.
