Need To Vent...

This probably seems dumb but it's really frustrating. Whenever I have taken a cat to the veterinary clinic to have blood work done I am usually notified of the test results within a couple of hours. Last Thursday I went to a medical clinic to have a blood test done on myself. The M.D. had told me I would be notified of the test results by mail. I'm S-T-I-L-L waiting after a whole week, and I plan to call the doctor on Monday if I haven't heard anything by then.

At my drs, I get the prelim results almost right away, as he has a lab in his practice. I hate waiting for results!

I know that last time I had bloodwork done, it took almost 2 weeks to hear back. I questioned why it took so darn long and they told me that they have to send the blood to a lab in Omaha (almost 3 hours away). But, I live in a small town of 4000 so I can understand that they may not have the right equipment for the proper screening. Maybe that's why it's taking so long to hear back from your Doctor. Just a thought though....

OOPS!!! I just assumed the testing was being done locally but maybe it isn't. I'll have to check into that.

Labs get really swamped. Doctors are so worried about malpractice, these days, they tend to order ETKTM: Every Test Known To Man.

If it just routine blood work, it is done after the STAT and ASAP orders. A hospital lab will get results back, quicker than a private lab. They have the most up-to-date equipment.
