hi
not sure which forum to put this question in

out local shelter is looking for temp foster homes because they've got too many cats and nowhere to put them all (kitten season)

they seldom foster out cats that are not sick or pregnant, so i know things are unusually bad for them to be doing a pc on TV looking for foster homes

anyway i was thinking of fostering a cat for them but was wondering what would be best with the 3 cats i have-

i have two females and one male

the newest cat (just got her a month ago, from this same shelter) is pretty laid back, likes a little petting but not much

my other girl is not a lap cat but is very devoted to me

and my boy cat is a total love bug, he demands a lot of attention and i am only too happy to give it to him!

now when i got then newest cat i told them i needed a cat who was NOT overly affectionate towards me (that would make the other two jealous)

and this has worked out great

the cats play with each other when they feel like it, come to me when they want attention and no one is feeling jealous because everyone gets what they want

it was recommended that i get a female, when i adopted this last girl

so maybe the shelter will have some idea on what i should foster (male or female) but i thought i'd put the question out here and see what others experiences have been

i will still request a cat who does not need a lot of human interaction, only because my boy would not be at all happy about that!!!
but as far as the cats getting along, would a boy or girl be best?

oh, my cats are
boy about age 5 yrs (?)
girl 9 yrs old

and newest girl around 10 yrs old

does the age matter or just the temperament?

It really shouldn't matter what you foster. Most of the time the foster will need to be isolated away from your other cats.

I have 6 cats of my own. 5 female, 1 male. One female hates other females. I foster mostly kittens & currently have 2 boys after their sis got adopted. It doesn't usually matter much.
