Hello all,

Ok, I know many of you have hear me talk about my cats about a million times
. I just would like your opnions on a few things. It concerns food and a gasey kitty
.

I feed my girls Nurto Natural Care Adult Dry. They are free fed, and neither seems to have problems with eating too fast. There is plenty of water available to both of them.

Issue 1: Marbles' back end is stinky. For lack of a better way to put it. If she walks past you, well, her butt just smells bad. She has been treated for worms so I don't think that is the problem, and she goes reguarly, and I thought I was feeding her a "good" food, so I am looking for possible suggestions as to why this might be. BTW, this is an all the time thing, since she was a little girl.

Issue 2: Last night Trouble was lying on the floor next to my bed. She was on her back, when all of a sudden she starts passing gas like a maniac. At first I laughed, but it continued for a few minutes and was rather umm...stinky. I picked her up and listen to her tummy and it sounded ok, and she didn't seem to be in pain or anything. No food changes or treats. Although on Christmas Day she did get a bit of wet food as a treat, but I would have thought that would be through her system over a week later. So, is this normal? I mean, it worried me because it was different.

They are both due for their yearly check-up so I am going to ask the vet about it, but I wanted to hear from you guys first. Quite frankly, I don't trust my vet very much (too busy, doesn't seem to care enough).

Anyhoo, thanks for listening.

I had the same problem with my cats, so I had to switch food or buy gas masks! A friend fed his dogs the doggy version, and his male Am-Staff could clear the entire house!

It could be that the food just doesn't agree with her digestive system and that's what's causing the gas.
With the smell, I would bet she needs her anal glads expressed. They usually express themselves when using the bathroom, but on occasion, they need to be manually expressed.

:tounge2: Quite a funny image is in my head at the moment:tounge2:

For the first issue, check the anal glands as Sandie suggested.

For the second issue, how long have you been feeding the Nutro? Is this a new change? If the gas continues, change the food.

The Nutro did not work for us either. We switched to Natural Balance and the kitties smell very nice. Thank goodness! Stinky kitties -ewww!

I've had pretty good luck with the Nutro, but boy do I have to watch out for Purina! That stuff made our kittens pass gas like nothing before!
