About 4 days ago Clyde started throwing up. He does this on occasion when he has a hairball or has eaten too much (thats what I thought). He threw up a hairball but continued to vomit everything he ate. I gave him some hairball paste and some hairball treats but he threw those up too. I could tell this morning that he didn't feel good and he felt warm. I took him to the vets office this morning when they opened up. I'm going to school right now so I don't have a lot of money so they did what they could without running lots of tests (still cost 120.00). They sent us home with some anti-vomit pills, some steriods and some antibiotics. They said if he isn't better by Monday to bring him back for some tests and X-rays. Has anyone had any experience like this? He is still throwing up and gags all the time sometimes bringing up bile. I feel so bad for him.

I just took my cat to the vet too with some gagging and lots of swallowing. It turned out he has a sore throat and lost his voice. Now my other cats are getting the same thing.

Toby was not gagging a whole lot, but it could be the same thing you are mentioning.

My vet gave my Toby a steroid shot and some mild antibiotics too.

I'm bummed because I leave to visit my sister on the 18th and I hope I don't have other sick kitties here. My cat sitter is great but I just hate leaving them if they are not in top shape.

I understand about the cost of the vet. I paid 62.00 this morning, what I have done is ask the receptionist if there is some way to pay out your bill, because if he is not better Monday, then your kitty will need those tests
to find out what is really wrong.... maybe call them after school and ask
for a price quote on the tests that the vet would need to perform should
you have to bring him back... hopefully you have used this vet before and
have a good reputation of paying your bills, because most people will
work anyone in this situation, as long as you discuss it with them. The way
people get turned off by helping individuals out is when someone lets them
perform the tests, and doesn't discuss the finanicial end and when it is done
they pay all that they can then, and never call or return there again!
I would just ask, heck all they can say is no, ask them is there any humane
society that they work with who could help you pay for the proceedures.
I did get a little help, when I rescued my 4 kitties, being a single mom it is
difficult to pay for 4 spay/neuter, I think the place I talked to help pay
about 10.00 on each surgery! It never hurts to ask!
Sending get well to Clyde I hope he starts feeling better soon!!!!!Poor boy!!! oh yeah, he is so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!

My guy was just sick with vomiting and diagnosed with giardia. He was sluggish for a day or two, yet fiesty when it came to administering the meds. The anti-vomit and the antibiotics kicked in and he was taking the dewormer and he was himself after a week. Did the vet give you prescription food? Seamus was eating Prescription Diet for stomach issues for about 10 days while he was on meds. Limiting how much he ate to the one can a day and giving the meds did the trick.

The vet did blood work and fecal tests to diagnose, and the bill was high, but before she did anything I was given a full bill printed out and everything was discussed with me before she did anything, so I guess if money was an issue, it seemed they may have been willing enough to discuss it with the bill there.

Hopefully the meds kick in and he gets better with his current treatment

This sounds a lot like Clyde. He is also taking all those meds so maybe he will get better soon too!

Sounds a bit like my Rambo, but he ended up having a sore throat too...made him gag whenever he swallowed. The steroids helped the most by reducing the inflammation in his throat. Hopefully with what the vet perscribed clyde will be feeling better in no time!

He isn't throwing up anymore but he is still gagging and he clearly feels horrible. I can see it in his eyes. He also feels a little warm.

That sounds like his throat is sore to me. Whether it was sore before and caused the initial vomiting...or all the vomiting has made his throat sore...hard to tell. Call you open up his mouth and look inside. Does it look red/raw? Any sores, bumps or blisters?

The only thing that worked for these was the steroids for the inflammation, and then i just got Rambo some kitty-milk and chicken or beef baby food. And i fed him a mixture of that (slightly warmed) until his throat was better.
