So out of curiosity what does semi-formal mean to you?

Reason being is that I placed the dress code on my wedding webpage as "semi-formal". Now B and a couple of his friends are thinking big poofy dresses because I said "Semi-formal".

I always thought that Semi-formal meant that you could wear either 2-piece dresses or a dress with a short skirt and men could wear dress shirts and pants but no tie.

I'll probably just change it to wear something nice, but no jeans or sneakers.

How would the words "Casual" (but not jeans or sneakers) work?

Semi-formal to me means nice dress or suit. Formal is tux and long dress. Dressy Casual is nice, but not fancy.
