Too much of a coincidence?

Just had to share this. Now I know posting pets on Craiglist can be iffy, but a lot of the rescues around here do and have had a lot of success with adoptions with careful screening. So, I posted my foster kitten, Molly, on there yesterday morning. Within 10 mins., I had a response from a woman saying they were looking for a companion for their 1-year-old female cat, so I sent her an application.

She emailed the it right back. Something about it didn't seem quite right. Her name sounded familiar. I thought she might be the same person that was mentioned in a recent email through the local rescue network as someone not to adopt to. We were warned that the couple in question does a lot of backyard breeding and have been known to neglect the animals they take in. So, I did some checking. Turns out it's not the same person, but she does live on the same street as this couple. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but that's too much of a coincidence for me. She also hasn't responded to my request for a vet reference.

I try to be very open and non-judgemental of people when I'm doing adoptions, but I'm also careful. It could be that this lady isn't connected with the other couple, but the fact that I haven't heard from her since yesterday after she initially responded so quickly tells me something.

You have to trust your instincts! Maybe she has a good reason why she hasn't responded, so reserve your judgment, but if it doesn't feel right when you do talk to her, then don't adopt to her.

Good point. She could just be busy and that's understandable. If she does respond, I'll figure out how to handle it from there.

I say to go with your instincts too! No need to rush any adoptions in my oppinion, if someone really wants a particular kitty, they will wait a respectable length of time.
