Yep, those 18 Mosquito bites on my feet are actually flees! I got them from volunteering at my shelter, a lot of the new strays have em.

I'm just worried about Moonlight. How can I prevent him from getting fleas? Will he get them? I've had them for about 4 days but I didn't find out they were fleas until today.

I don't want Moonlight to get them!!!

You poor thing.. I have no clue how to stop them,, i have a flea collar on both my cats,, because our outside dog comes in and out, sometimes, and we used to foster, and they always had fleas...

The collar helped.. I remember one time we had to wash our cats with flea shampoo to kill the fleas that they got.. So I have no clue.. Hopefully they didn't tag onto you for a ride home.

Thanks! I have a pair of shoes that I wear just to the shelter. This new stray they got in was really sweet and rubbing against my shoes and socks.. although I woke up this morning with my tiny toe all swelled up and 3 new bites. I hope they aren't in the house now.

Do the flea collars work well?

Oh no, I'm sorry!
I have no experience with fleas, but you might want to give your vet a call and see what you can do about preventing Moonlight from getting them.

Make sure you are take your shoes and socks that you wear at the shelter off before you go in your house. It might be a good idea to spray them with flea spray just to be on the safe side. You certainly have to be careful all you need is to get a couple of fleas in you house and have them lay eggs. They are a pain to get rid of.
You might want to put a flea collar on your cat, or use a product like advantage for a couple of weeks just to be on the safe side.

If your kitty does get them there are treatments (Revolution, Advantage, Frontline) that you cna get from your vet.
Our cats get them about this time of year (They are indoor onlies, but I`m not. The vet says they probably ride in on me from being out in the yard working in my flowers)
Our experience is that it usually take 3 doses (once between the shoulders on each cat, once a month for 3 months) to really be rid of them....at least til next year this time.
I`m lucky though...fleas and mosquotes don`t like me...so I don`t get bit....but they LOVE my Hubby!!!!

Yep, we washed the shoes and socks. How do I tell if Moonlight already has fleas? I want to know so I can get him cured ASAP. I also stayed at my aunt's house last week, and both her cats and her dog had fleas. I could of got them there, too.

Don't you guys have to wear closed in shoes? At our shelter there is a wet mat in front of the isolation room so whenever we step in and out any germs and things are killed on the shoes, and also gloves/gowns are worn. How did fleas bite your feet?

I read online they usually attack the legs and feet. I wear closed in tennis shoes to the shelter. Now I'm thinking I got it from my Aunt's. She doesn't care for her animals that well and they all have fleas. The shelter is really clean, and they take good care of their cats so now I doubt that's that source.
