Your mind races ahead thinking of all the possibilities

Music reaches into your soul, the lyrics and rhythms match time with your heartbeat
The moon rises reflecting the fire in your eyes
The wind swirls around bringing chaos in small patterns
Choices and paths leading this way and that

Talking quietly in the night, listening to the silence between breaths
The dawn sneaks upon you, the moon and stars fade
A strong gust clears your mind carrying away the spirit of the evening
Thoughts of what might be yield to the reality of daytime

And all the while you long for dusk to return so the cycle may start again
Mark....I am very impressed. I love the imagery.

Okay, let me take the plunge. I'm the opposite of Arlyn, whose two beautiful dark verses gave me serious chills -- I can't bear to live inside such feelings long enough to write about them, so most of my stuff is silly doggerel. Here's one:

Radial Symmetry

From front to back, I do not lack.
I'm also wide from side to side.
And so I twist and turn and squeeze
And squirm and try to gently ease
Between the hard place and the rock
Alas, to realize with a shock:
I'm equilateral, in fact
From side to side and front to back.

Awww...Carol...thank you so much for sharing...I know how tough that was...in fact, I am completely impressed with everyone's poems.

Once upon a time I dreamed

From this source I drew my power
Now this is my haunting hour

Some have wronged me, now they see
I haunt them with my memory
Others watched me shed a tear
Now they too, have me to fear
Arlyn,

I love your poem. You are not alone. I've struggled with break ups as well:

I think I must be better than that
falling all over myself
at the image of you I created.
How perfectly tempered you were
in that lost dream,
how inexplicably in love.
Reality's hand never quite fit
the glove I made of you,
and my heart never quite gave up
the silken longing.
I am fit to be tied,
here in the waking hour
when you are not so real.
You were the promise my father never kept,
the eternal hope
caught behind countless freckles
and wise intellect.
I needed only to capture your words
like fireflies
and place them upon my finger.
But the you I created never came,
and your words tanished
and faded from view.

Aw, thank you! But that was nothing... everybody already knows I'm overweight.

Maybe I'll gather the nerve to put up some of my songs... they're a lot more personal.

Oh, it's been quite a while since I wrote anything. But I used to write quite a bit and go to open mics quite frequently. Most of my poems are rated R, but here's a few:

Mr. Head

She had a manâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s head that crawled in and out of her.
She would start to read a good book,
And heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d pop out of her chest to strike up a conversation.
She would warm up to have her morning jog,
And heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d pop out of her knee and ask for some food.
Sheâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d sit down to her dinner,
And heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d pop out of her forehead and eat it all.
But the second his beady eyes saw someone else,
Heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d pop back into her,
Not to come out again until they were alone.
But one night, a man with a gun mugged her,
So he popped out lashing his long purple tongue,
Ate the manâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s gun,
Regurgitated some bullets through
His fat pudgy nose,
Shooting his hat off,
Made him pee in his pants,
And left the thief whimpering
Leaving her to safely trot away.
Ever since that night, he would pop out
For a quick peek at whomever she was talking to.
He would pop out of her chest at night
To talk of the time he saved her life,
And she would have to pound him back into her
To get some sleep.

The Initiates

You could always tell
Who the new ones were.
Their swaggering walks
Their over confident smiles.
That will change.
We hate them, yet envy them
At the same time.
Sore old women whoâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve lost
Their innocence, looking on
Into a field of bathing virgins.
We walk softly,
Heel in front of toe,
Precisely,
Cats walking through
A crowd of birds,
Ungraceful things on ground.

A Hidden World

The sun, so bright
You can only see the shadows
Of the pale concrete.
A door, hidden
In the white fabric
Of the world
Opens,
Producing a girl,
Squinting,
Watching an ant
Dragging a tiny piece of the world
That it could call
All its own.

Sorry for hogging, just couldn't resist an audience.

Well, I do write things but I wouldn't call it poetry. I keep a notebook beside my bed and when I'm falling asleep (or trying to) a lot of things run through my head, so I write it down. For the most part it's disjointed thoughts and stuff I can't remember thinking of the next day.

the who (sort of, lol!)
"furball wizard"

ever since i was a young girl
ive felt the kittens call
from tabby down to siamese
i must have loved them all
but I aint seen nothing like her
in anyone else's hall
that frige-birthin’ stray cat
sure is a cute furball.

she sat in the ice box
gave birth in a machine
playing with her litter
watched her lick 'em clean.
has feline intuition
comes quickly when I call
that frige-birthin stray cat
sure is a cute furball.

she’s a furball wizard
never heard her hiss
a furball wizard
she melts me with her kiss

how do you think she does it?
(i don’t know)
what makes her so good?

she had some quick contractions
right near those pepper red bells
my boyfriend’s teeth a gnashin’
told him to go to hell
solo must he now play
left him with blue balls
but that fridge-birthin stray cat
sure is a cute furball

i thought i’d seen
the cutest kitty things
but she just opened
my bleeding heart again

even when i don’t feel able
she brings out my best
she leads her kitties in
and love just does the rest
each one of my 5 babies
makes me feel 10 feet tall
but that fridge-birthin stray cat
sure is a cute furball!
